My first year of teaching was 7th grade science in Waco, Texas. Then I got married and moved to Virginia, where I taught 7th/8th grade mathematics (pre-algebra) for 12 years in and out of a collaborative model. I then taught 6th grade math virtually. Now I'm a 6-8 math interventionist in Tennessee (and loving it!).
Are you a reflective teacher that wants to know if your students think about you, your teaching, and your lesson the same way you do? I know I am! I created this resource to gather information from my students about their feelings of the school year. The answers in this evaluation form can be especially powerful if used at the end of a semester so you can modify your classroom before they leave. Then compare your results with the end of the year results to see if you moved in the direction you
On the first day of school, teachers use that time to tell the students about the class and classroom. How about you gather some information about your students and their feelings about math at the same time? This purchase has two sheets available. Both cover questions like -- - evaluative questions about the student's perceived mathematical ability - questions about their mathematical mindset - personal questions about what makes them unique or what they intend to do after graduation Th
In my classroom, I teach the students to order numbers using a specific process. First, change all the numbers to decimals. Second, line up the decimals. Third, write the numbers in the correct order. This worksheet provides space for each step. There are 4 ordering questions that include numbers represented in scientific notation, decimal form, and fraction form. The final question asks students to write about the process they used. There is also a digital format via Google Slides that con
Want to make your first day or week with your students more interesting? Maybe you need an easy way to learn about your students while also creating a community of learners. This activity is for you! This worksheet provides all the framework for you to invest as much or as little time as you want into it. Here are some suggestions for how to use it -- 1. Give it as a Do Now on that first day so you can focus on attendance or seating charts. 2. Use one or more of the questions as closures to cla
Join the GEMDAS revolution! This poster breaks apart the pieces of GEMDAS into the 4 steps used to simplify an expression. My hope is to replace PEMDAS in all grades and schools in America.
*If you'd like this poster with fewer G options, let me know.*
In this activity, the students roll a die to decide the variables in short order of operation problems. This activity is best done in pairs with students sharing the responsibility! My students enjoy it! You can definitely replace a worksheet with this one!
In this activity, students cut out some fractions, decimals, and percents. Then they match the equivalent ones together and paste them onto the answer sheet. I usually copy the numbers on colored paper so the final product looks more interesting than white on white.
Students enjoy this so much better than a worksheet!
Needs a math game board for reviews? Then this is what you want! It's got 47 spaces from the start to the finish. It's got squares that advance you and send you backward. It's even got a few math reminders in the open space!
Grab some dice, print out some questions, and let the students play the day away!
This is an activity for ordering numbers in different forms. Each page contains two sets of the same numbers. I print each page on the color of cardstock indicated and cut out the numbers. If you make one copy, you'll have two sets of 5 colors each. The numbers are written with scientific notation, absolute value, fractions, and decimals. Then I put the students in groups of 4 or 5, depending on what they can handle. I choose a color and tell the students what order to put the numbers in. T
Number lines are another way to see the number sets -- natural, whole, integer, and rational. This number line uses colors to show which numbers on a number line represent each number set. It also includes labels for the colors and a black-and-white number line. When you purchase this product, you agree to use it in your classroom only. If you want to share it with your colleagues, please purchase additional licenses. Please consider leaving feedback about your purchase. I love hearing how teach
**Updated June 2025 to include 2 sizes and more color options. Sometimes students need reminders of the behaviors they need for success. This poster is a simple way to remind students. It has the words Focus, Read, Ask, Persevere, and Study surrounding the word Success. The file contains 2 different sizes, one for walls and one for desks. It also has 6 color schemes to fit your classroom needs. If you like this poster, you might also like my other posters. Check them out! Even though this is
Do your students need more reinforcement for the order of operations (GEMDAS)? This might be a worksheet for you! It assigns colors to the different steps of the order of operations so each step is highlighted by a color.
I used this in the beginning of my career when my students didn't have to complete very difficult order of operation puzzles. I think it's very useful to add color to what is normally black and white!
My coworkers and I have embarked on a mission to change PEMDAS to GEMDAS since the upper levels of math include more than just parentheses as a grouping symbol. That being said, I made this KWL chart to use with my 8th grade students to introduce the new anagram. It was a great conversation!

Experience
My first year of teaching was 7th grade science in Waco, Texas. Then I got married and moved to Virginia, where I taught 7th/8th grade mathematics (pre-algebra) for 12 years in and out of a collaborative model. I then taught 6th grade math virtually. Teaching style
I prefer hands-on, discovery learning with lots of discussion, activity, and analysis. I'm a big fan of Jo Boaler and standards-based grading, so I prefer collaboration over lectures.
Awards & shining teacher moments
My principal has honored me with the Starfish Award for going above and beyond my duties.
I have also been awarded Teacher of The Week by current and former students.
My own education history
I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. I am certified to teach grades 4-8 in math and science in Texas, grades 6-8 mathematics/science and Algebra in Virginia and Tennessee, and I hold a Master of Education in School Leadership.
Additional biographical information
I have led professional development on creating a positive relationship with middle school students. I also created the activities and worksheets we used in our 7th/8th grade math curriculum. As a math interventionist, I use small groups and collaboration to address learning gaps and misunderstandings.
