Using Ratios and Rates to Solve Real World Math Word Problems Task
Students will solve real world math word problems by using a ratio – table or double number line to make comparisons. Furthermore, students will have to describe rate relationships between equivalent ratios, complete a ration-table by making equivalent ratios, and explain the reasoning behind their solutions. This task can be used as an activity and/or assessment. It is great for formal or informal observations.

Students will find the unit rate to help them complete a table of values that they will have to graph on a coordinate plane. Students will also have to explain how unit rates help them complete ratio tables and how to graph information on a coordinate plane. Students will have a fun time visiting Marty’s Arcade. In this engaging task, students will write a real world math problem that represents a given equation, explain what the variable of an equation represents within the context of the problem, solve equations, explain how they solved different equations, and compare rates.

Examining Linear Equations Task - Description, Table of Values & Graph

INTEGER TASK (ADDING, SUBTRACTING, MULTIPLYING & DIVIDING)
In this challenging task, students will solve real world math problems by adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. Students will have to create equations that represent the depth of a submarine and compute the time it takes for the submarine to descend and rise to the surface. Students will also have to explain what integer best describes the elevation and direction of the submarine. Lastly, students will have to create a real world scenario based on an equation of integers.

Experience
I am a middle school teacher for the city of New York. I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade Math, English, Science & Social Studies. I have been educating since 2005. While in the classroom, I have coached both students and teachers.
Teaching style
As a teacher, my goal is to make learning FUN! I provide children with strategies on how to learn so they can comprehend what is being taught. I instill knowledge that each child needs in order to be successful. I enjoy small group instruction and creating tiered tasks. There is nothing better than seeing the light bulbs of your students go off. The goal of my tasks is to create engaging activities that challenge students to think and apply academic concepts that inevitably produce open discourse amongst the students.
