The Effects of Multiplying and Dividing by Numbers between 0 and 1
This is a great inquiry exercise that requires students to use their computation skills (fractions, decimals, and whole numbers) to conclude the effects of multiplying and dividing by numbers between 0 and 1. The main purpose of this activity is to help students understand that multiplying doesn't always mean to get bigger; and dividing doesn't always mean to get smaller.

Multiplying Fractions vs. Multiplying Decimals
Students will solve fraction multiplication problems (fraction by fraction, mixed number by fraction, and fraction by whole number). They will then check their work by solving the same problems, but this time with decimals. I use this activity to segue from multiplying decimals to multiplying fractions. There are multiple practice assignments and 2 sets of differentiated assessments. This activity also helps students to better understand fraction and decimal equivalencies.
