Product Description Reading comes alive when we recognize how the ideas in a text connect to our experiences and beliefs (text-to-self connections), events happening in the broader world (text-to-world connections), and our knowledge of other texts (text-to-text connections). Teaching style

I can’t help but repeat the enlightened words of Confucius, “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” I am sure, as a teacher, you have heard those words more than once. However, despite the repeated use of such a sentiment, its wisdom is one that I revisit time and time again as I plan learning experiences for my students. I strive to provide multiple opportunities for students to “do”, whether that is through hands on play, or reading, writing and math workshops. While learning this way can be messy and unpredictable it almost always leads to deeper understanding.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Fritzi earned the Crystal Apple Award in 2004 and the Unsung Hero Award in a year or two before that. Shauna won the Washington State University Children's Book Award in 2003 for writing and illustrating a children's book.

My own education history

We both earned our Bachelor of Education degrees from Washington State University and Masters degrees from University of Phoenix.
