This multiplication patterns math unit includes EVERYTHING you need to supplement teaching your 3rd grade students this tricky skill! Teaching third grade students to recognize a rule or fill in the next number in a pattern can be very difficult! In this multiplication patterns unit, students get to practice identifying 3rd grade patterns that involve addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. WHAT'S INCLUDED?
✅MULTIPLICATION PATTERNS MINI LESSON
This patterns unit also includes a mini-lesson or interactive notebook page with photos showing you how to help students glue the notes into their notebooks. This gives students something to reference when they get stuck or need help while doing homework at home. Students practice with repeating patterns, growing patterns, and function tables.
✅ 10 PATTERNS WORKSHEETS
I created this patterns math unit to help my students better grasp patterns with ten worksheets that expose them to function tables, missing numbers, patterns in the multiplication table, and identifying the pattern rule using multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction.
✅ 4 ERROR ANALYSIS PAGES
Students look at four different work samples and decide which pages are right and which are wrong based on what is shown. These are perfect for math talk or whole group discussions. The error analysis pages help with evaluating common third grade math mistakes.
✅EMOJI MATH SORT
This is a sorting activity where students put a smile or a frown emoji on top of each task card. If the answer is correct, a happy smile is put on top of it. If the wrong answer was found, the students put a frown on top of the task card.
✅ CUT AND GLUE ACTIVITY
There's a simple cut and glue activity included where students have to figure out which key belongs to which house! They glue the key on the correct driveway based on the pattern it follows.
✅PATTERN GUESSING ACTIVITY
Also included is an activity called "Guess My Pattern" where students use the numbers included to create a pattern for their partner. The partner then guesses what the pattern rule is and writes it down on the recording sheet. If they get it correct, they get a point!
✅GAME #1: PATTERN PARADE
The second game resembles a real parade! In the game, kids look at each parade float and decide what the rule of the pattern is. They find the corresponding kids that belong in that parade. It's a great sorting game for math centers or small group lessons.
✅ GAME #2: BUILD A BIRTHDAY PARTY GAME
Each player gets a background to build their birthday party on. Playing cards and pieces go in the middle. Each time you get an answer correct, you earn a piece for your birthday party. Chance cards are provided to spice up gameplay. You never know who’s going to win with these included! The first person to finish getting 10 items in their birthday party picture wins!
✅ GAME #3: WHOLE CLASS GAME
I call this game "Bucket Filler!". Set up the task cards all around the room for students. Print enough of each task card for every student. Give each student a recording sheet. Let students wander the room and solve each task card. When they solve a card, they bring it to the teacher to be checked. If it's correct, they get to drop the task card in a bucket. At the end of gameplay, the teacher draws names out of the bucket. Those students earn a small prize as a reward (an eraser, a pencil, etc).
✅ GAME #4: RACING GAME
This game is called "Line Them Up!". In the game, students race to see which team can line their cards up in the correct order first. Here are the steps to play. Mix up each set of cards well. Give a set of cards to each team. Start the race. Students find the START card first. They put this down. Once the start card is found, students find the answer to the equation. They continue to “Line Them Up” until they reach the FINISH card. The first team done wins!
A color and black and white version of each game and activity is included in this math unit.
