WHAT'S INCLUDED?
✅ROUNDING MINI LESSON
This mini lesson helps students practice rounding numbers to the nearest 100 within 1000. There are 5 pages of teacher instructions included to help you teach this concept and a mini-lesson for students to glue into their interactive math notebooks. Students practice learning the bigger than 50, less than 50 rule. They also circle the two tens a number falls between and round to the nearest 100 on a number line.
✅ 10 ROUNDING WORKSHEETS
The 10 rounding worksheets include rounding to the nearest 100 on a number line,
worksheets for rounding numbers on the number line with a number line filled in, rounding fun worksheets, rounding with a blank number line, rounding by choosing the closest 100, using bigger than or less than 50 in the tens place, and a rounding worksheet using any strategy. Answer keys are also included for each page.
✅ 4 ERROR ANALYSIS PAGES
Students look at four different work samples and decide which pages are right and which are wrong based on what is shown. These are perfect for math talk or whole group discussions. The error analysis pages help with evaluating common third grade math mistakes.
✅ROUNDING HIGHWAY ACTIVITY
Students have to decide which highway all of the speeding cars need to travel on. Kids are broken up into groups. They put a speed limit sign on each road. Kids then cut out each racing car. Students round each car to the nearest hundred and place it on the correct road. At the end, students get their rounding road checked by the teacher. It's a great group activity that builds classroom community!
✅ EMOJI MATH SORT
This is a sorting activity where students put a smile or a frown emoji on top of each task card. If the answer is correct, a happy smile is put on top of it. If the wrong answer was used, the students put a frown on top of the task card. 48 cards are included in the game.
✅ GAME #1: RACING GAME
This game is called "Line Them Up!". In the game, students race to see which team can line their cards up in the correct order first. Here are the steps to play. Mix up each set of cards well. Give a set of cards to each team. Start the race. Students find the START card first. They put this down. Once the start card is found, students find the answer to the equation. They continue to “Line Them Up” until they reach the FINISH card. The first team done wins.
✅ GAME #2: BUILD A SCIENCE LAB GAME
Each player gets a background to build their science lab on. Playing cards and item pieces go in the middle. Each time you get an answer correct, you earn a piece for your science lab. Chance cards are provided to spice up gameplay. You never know who’s going to win with these included! The first person to finish getting 10 items in their science lab wins!
✅ GAME #3: WHOLE CLASS GAME
I call this game "Bucket Filler!". Set up the task cards all around the room for students. Print enough of each task card for every student. Give each student a recording sheet. Let students wander the room and solve each task card. When they solve a card, they bring it to the teacher to be checked. If it's correct, they get to drop the task card in a bucket. At the end of gameplay, the teacher draws names out of the bucket. Those students earn a small prize as a reward (an eraser, a pencil, etc).
✅ GAME #4: ICE CREAM ROUNDING
Students lay out all ice cream cones. Then, they round each scoop to the nearest hundred. Students place the scoops on the correct ice cream cones.
There is a color and a black and white version of each game and activity included. This is a perfect supplement during a rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 math unit.
