Hurricanes are often in the news near the start of the school year. This EASY NO PREP ACTIVITY is a great way to engage students with real science, or during a unit on latitude and longitude, weather and storms, or at other times during the year. Students will use real hurricane data to plot the path of the hurricane on a hurricane tracking map, use a planetary wind diagram to analyze and make inferences about the data. Lastly, students make suggestions for an emergency plan. It is gre
This project is a great way for students to connect real-life and science as they research a historical weather disaster (list provided) and follow the detailed directions to create a presentation! These specifics allow all students to create a successful presentation in a timely manner. Students practice reading and finding/distilling information, and creating a presentation (great common core connections!!). This connects well to hurricane season every year, and other current events gl

One version is a more traditional lab, and the other is more open-ended, or inquiry
Students often struggle with the concepts of specific heat, land and sea breezes, and heating and cooling times of land and water until they can see it in action, and practice foundational science inquiry skills at the same time. In this ready-to-go lab activity students model for land and sea breezes, by heating and cooling both land and water, and collect data, graph, and analyze their data to understand applications. This activity fits well in a unit on specific heat, climate, weather,
Students learn better when they are active learners, and integrating different concepts. This lab will get your students excited about the circulatory system as they practice their graphing and data collection skills. Students will practice scientific process skills, experimental design, graphing, and reinforce functions and components of the circulatory system. Additional biographical information
I have 2 children of my own. I appreciate that people want to find quality resources and save themselves the time. I have worked hard to develop materials I believe in. My materials are effective with a very difficult population (I have worked mostly in urban settings, and some special ed settings). If they are effective there, I believe they will be effective for your as well.
