Differentiated Matching Game – 4 levels of play –

Team Rules: Sort cards by definition, picture, word, and sentence. Using a 4-person team, assign each person 1 kind of card to match with their team-mates. Hint – the sentence card includes the vocabulary word with bold lettering, so this is a perfect job for low readers.

3. These work well printed on white paper, then backed with different colored paper to show the part of speech. Laminate to use again and again.
4. Fun Idea – use these to play “Guess my word” or “Move it” where students move around the room asking questions about the word on their forehead or back.

Rock Cycle Vocabulary Posters
• 8.5 x 11 poster for each word
• 2 versions of some for differentiation
• Full color, but print nicely in grayscale
• Word, part of speech, definition, sentence and picture on each poster
• Fun Idea – place 10 posters around the room and use the foldable to find definitions. It’s like a living glossary.
• Trading Cards – These full page posters have large font, so they work well in trading card size too. Just print 9 to a page!

Rock Cycle Vocabulary Foldables
1. 10 words each on 2 foldables for upper elementary
2. 5 words each on 4 foldables for room to add graphic representations
3. Differentiate – print the 5-word foldable full size for some students and half size for the rest. Half size fits well in a journal, but 80% size works well for students with visual perceptual challenges.
4. Use these foldables with the matching posters for a ‘living glossary’ activity with words posted around the room (or school).

Rock Cycle Matching Quizzes (also included in the Quiz mini-bundle)
• 10 words from the FIRST vocabulary foldable and their matching definition
• The same 10 words matching picture to the word (answers are the same)
• 10 words from SECOND vocabulary foldable and their matching definition
• The same 10 words matching picture to the word (answers are the same)
All pictures and definitions match the posters and word wall.
The picture version allows students with low language skills to participate in the general education classroom.
