These notes come after reading an article about the science of fireworks and before the flame lab. I conduct a flame demo using the salt solutions students will test later using wood splints. During the demo, I have a bunsen burner clamped and suspended on a ring stand, and I spray the ionic solutions beneath the burner to stimulate the increase and subsequent decrease of electron excitation resulting in the emission of colored photons.
