Fraction Division using String!
After a discussion of reciprocals, students work in cooperative groups to prove the fraction division algorithm by folding lengths of string into fractional parts. After practicing by dividing a whole number length of string, they divide a fractional string length into smaller fractional parts.
Aha Moment: When finished, students will have proven why the abstract concept of fraction division is equal to multiplying by the reciprocal of the second fraction.

U.S. Liquid Measures: Conversions Made Easy
We dread teaching it.... they dread learning it! U.S. Customary Liquid Conversions can be difficult for non-conceptual learners. I have developed an easy algorithm that will work for any conversion. Multiplying Mixed Numbers Using an Area Model

Find a fractional part of a whole Interactive Notes
Great tool for teaching students to include in a math journal that demonstrates how to find a fractional part of a whole number. Students start by drawing a model and then move to the standard algorithm method.

Students usually have an easy time learning how to divide a whole number by a fraction using an area model. Dividing unit fractions by whole numbers can be tricky. This lesson uses CCSS Math Practices 3, 4, and 7 to help students find out for themselves how and why the algorithm invert and multiply works. Homework Helper - Simplifying Fractions
I have often found that my students go home to do their homework and parents are unable to help them because they do not have the background knowledge of the skill being taught.
The two worksheet pages include very simple steps to simplifying a fraction. The first page is the algorithm going step by step through the process.
The second page includes picture models which I feel is very important too. Students need to see(a visual) how the fractions are equal.
