Earth's Tilt & Seasons Handout

This handout allows students to see how the Earth's tilt affects the seasons in both hemispheres as it revolves around the Sun. It can be used as a supplemental activity for students to fill in as an exit ticket or independent work activity. I prefer to use it as the center of the lesson where students have to investigate each position and properly label the season for that position. It is a great tool to place in their science journals as a study guide to recognizing how the tilt and revolution
Preview of Ecosystem Competition Activity

Ecosystem Competition Activity

This activity requires students to read scenarios and determine how that scenario would affect other organisms on the given food web. Use it as a station rotation allowing students to walk around the room or folder pass as an evaluation activity. A wonderful way for students to gain a better understanding of the affects of competition in a food web

Organic vs. Inorganic Compounds: How Can You Tell?

A quick, effective introduction and review of what makes something organic or inorganic. It shows students how to something is classified as organic vs. inorganic, specifically in relation to chemistry. Use it as a part of talking about compounds in your chemistry lesson to make sure students understand how organic compounds are classified!

Food Web: Marine & Freshwater Comparison

This activity is a great way to see the inherent differences between ecosystems and food webs that come from the same "stereotype," which in this case both ecosystems are found in water! This document contains 2 separate food web abilities: freshwater and marine. In 2 sets, there are pictures of multiple producer/ consumers, predator/ prey relationships. Allow students to first sort them into specific piles based on whether they are producers or consumers or where they would fall on the Rule o
Preview of Cells Alive!: Interactive Activity

Cells Alive!: Interactive Activity

This is an interactive lesson that allows students to do independent research on the different types of cells. Using the app, Cells Alive (accessible through laptop/ ipad), students will go to that website and interact with their digital cells, learning how all of the cells different parts work together. It has little checkpoints along the way, ensuring that students are understanding what they're learning. At the end, if you have time, it requires students to make a powerpoint/ presentation on
Preview of Speed, Velocity & Acceleration- Graphing Practice

Speed, Velocity & Acceleration- Graphing Practice

This powerpoint is designed to test students knowledge on both speed, velocity and acceleration as well as require them to either identify what a graph is telling them or draw the graph that is being described, using the speed, velocity, acceleration vocab. Best to be done on whiteboards where students can work individually or collaboratively to draw the correct graph or write the scenario/ story that the graph is telling. This is a wonderful way to help hit home the key differences of not only

Preview of Seasons & the Earth's Tilt Powerpoint

Seasons & the Earth's Tilt Powerpoint

Built around 8th Grade State requirements, this powerpoint goes into how and why seasons happen and how the Earth's tilt affects the seasons in each hemisphere. It does a fantastic job of going step by step through how we determine seasons, why they happen during certain times of the year and where the Sun hits on the Earth. It ends with a link to a video that ties all the concepts together. The short, concise design allows for students to take quick, yet effective notes and focus on the main

Preview of Atomic Structure Practice

Atomic Structure Practice

With this Powerpoint you can have students practice identifying and naming elements based purely on their atomic structure. There are 29 slides of different elements, just in their atomic form. I've used this activity on many levels from practice counting valence electrons and energy levels to requiring a full identification of an atom involving name/ atomic number/ mass/ VE, ect. Use it as a white board practice or folder pass but this is a fantastic activity to help solidify their atomic struc

Rotation Revolution & Seasons: Foldable & PowerPoint

An interactive PowerPoint that goes with a foldable This foldable allows students to see how rotation, revolution and the Earth's tilt all are responsible for the seasons here on Earth. It goes through how to fold, cut and build it and is designed to be, at first, teacher led. You will show the students how you want the definition and key facts/ statements to look like and then allow them to independently answer the next 2 sections. It is a great student-led activity and requires students to u
Preview of Convection Current Foldable

Convection Current Foldable

Convection Current Foldable The best way to use this resource is to be a reference on how convection currents in the ocean work, flowing from cold to warm and warm to cold in a cyclical motion. With my experience, middle schoolers have a hard time visualizing the constant movement that our world is experiencing. Pull a ocean map from online of the ocean convection currents and have them color the temperature (red or blue) that the arrows direction would be, signifying that those currents tend t

Plate Tectonics Edible Lab!

The perfect way to solidify plate boundary knowledge through an interactive and tasty lab! Students will work with a partner to create each kind of boundary and answer questions. A lot of fun for the students and takes the whole period. If you have a class that is more rowdy or ELL/ SPED students, I would suggest a guided lab (that's what I did) and it works wonderfully!

Additional biographical information

C.E. Gonzalez is a San Diego native turned Texan who loves all things chocolate, beach and sarcasm! She lives for her students, loving every moment of being in the classroom. Working with her ELL students holds a special place in her heart and while every student is created different, they each deserve equal opportunity to a phenomenal education. Since working with low socio-economic students in a very diverse school district, she has worked harder to provide them the quality education they deserve with fun, interactive classroom activities that spark that love for science.
