About the store
My student teaching experience and practicuums were in 8th grade and the 12th grade, but I taught full-time at the high school level several years after that. As a high school teacher, I taught 9th Grade Literature and Composition, 10th Grade Literature and Composition, British Literature (12th Grade), Literary Types (elective), and SAT Preparation. I was also the sponsor of the school's literary journal. For six years, however, I taught at the college level at a local community college. At the college level, I have taught learning support English classes, ENGL 1101, ENGL 1102, and HUMN 1101 (Humanities at our college is a combination of art history, music history, philosophy, religion, and European history). I have taught traditional/ in-class classes, hybrid courses (part in-class and part online), and fully online classes. I am now an attorney, but I am teaching paralegal classes at our local technical college. I also still enjoy sprucing up my English teaching resources to share with all of you on Teachers Pay Teachers.

Respect Presentation

This presentation teaches students about the need for respect toward others and requires them to spend some time thinking and writing about what respect means and whether they consider themselves respectful. To be honest, I did this lesson with my 9th graders after they were extremely disrespectful to my substitute! Therefore, if you want to use it only for character education (and not discipline), you may want to lessen the amount students have to write at the end!

Teaching style

I use a combination of lecture, visual materials (particularly presentations, videos, and images), and I use a lot of group or student-centered activities. I prefer to incorporate as many mediums as I can into my classes so that students of different learning styles will be better able to understand the material. I tend to use a lot of research projects, writing activities, group projects, multimedia projects, and individual student-centered activities to promote learning. I find that students internalize the material best and are able to use higher-order thinking skills when they engage in a variety of activities that speak to their learning styles and require them to engage in research and critical thinking.

Additional biographical information

I am also a wife and a mother of three, and I am a perfectionist. As you can see, I put 100% into creating all of my classroom materials, and I typically create them from scratch. I enjoy sharing my lesson plans and activities with other teachers so that they have more time to be good teachers, wives and husbands, and mothers and fathers rather than spending their lives completing lesson plans. My husband is also a teacher. He teaches resources classes in all subjects for special education students at our local middle school. We often share and collaborate on teaching materials. Our oldest child is also special needs.
