A game of strategy and mathematical skills

I know that we must miss without warning, but that is why most districts ask us to keep a sub folder. That’s great, however, must subs do not know how to do math at a middle school or high school level. At least they are not comfortable doing math without help. So, I wanted to create a useable workbook that contains not just fun math worksheets but also note pages that a sub could go over with the students. At the end of the year my students have a hard time concentrating on Algebra. I created some coloring sheets to review concepts that needed more practice, and the students worked harder on these than regular worksheets. Even high school students enjoy coloring, so why not add it to you math assignment?

This flipbook is for the Ti-nspire cx using the graphing function. I created this book for my students because they were intimidated by the calculators and the many functions. By giving them the flipbook they had a resource that they could use anytime they became stuck. Eventually they became confident enough that they no longer needed they flipbook. This Ti-nspire activity bundle includes 4 system of equations activities including: system of equations with substitution, system of equations with elimination with addition and multiplication, and system of equation word problems. These activities can be used as mini lessons or reviews with the self-check feature. This is a great way to ensure that all students are participating by using the class capture on the teacher software.

Students will use the divisibility rules to color the picture. This is for the 4th and 5th grade Math Common Core Standards, but would be a great review activity for older students who might need to brush up on their divisibility rules.

This is a PowerPoint game that uses Pie Face! to encourage students to review working with pi. We used it on Pi Day and the 7th graders loved it. This is a self-checking quiz covering simplifying radicals, adding radicals, and multiplying radicals. I give my students about 30 minutes to complete the assignment and make their corrections before I collect the assignment on the Ti-Nspire software. We then go over the questions and answers. We discuss why some answers are wrong and what makes the others right. I made this PowerPoint to use an a review for my Algebra students. I try not to make my PowerPoint presentations overly busy, but easy for my students to follow along. I like to print the presentation to give as a handout so students can take notes as I go over the content. This is not a long presentation, only 12 slides, but includes examples of the substitution method and the elimination method.

Students enjoy hands on activities especially those who are lower in math. This activity can be an opening activity or part of a review. My students enjoyed the activity and were able to use the string art of understand the solution set for a system of inequalities. I hope your students enjoy the activity as well.

This is a worksheet for high school students. It includes multiplying and dividing monomials for a review. As students answer the questions they will find the answer and follow the directions to make a snowflake. I tried to leave the directions open to interpretation so the snowflakes will be unique to each student. My students enjoyed the activity.

I used this as an introductory lesson for my Algebra 1 resource classroom. We did the examples together and they did the 5 problems on their own and colored the picture according to their answers. It is a short introductory lesson that doesn't take that long to go over and the students get a break from normal worksheets. It is great for those days when class is shortened due to other activities in the school.

Students play hangman while doing Algebra. Students choose which problems to work, then they check to see if the answer is one under the blanks for the hangman game. If it isn't they draw part of the hangman. I give bonus for the completed hangman game.
