1.OA.6 What is Subtraction?
This is a week long power point lesson teaching the meaning behind subtraction. It is all based on word problems and starts with finding the whole group and sets in the problem. Then it goes on to reading and writing subtraction problems. Finally, it ends with solving word problems and differentiating between subtraction and addition word problems. Each lesson is well defined with a Ticket Out the Door to use as assessment. This is a great lesson to have before my Subtraction Counting Strat

Awards & shining teacher moments
I was asked to be part of a committee to adapt the Common Core Standards for the state of Arizona in 2010. This really helped me understand the standards and how they can be used in the classroom.
My own education history
I'm proud to say that I am a graduate of Indiana University. I also earned my Master's Degree in Reading, Writing and Literacy from a great program at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
