About the store
Most my classroom experience has been in 5th grade spending 1 full year in 4th grade as well. Recently, I took a position as a Math Resource Teacher and work with students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. I am currently in a Title 1 school which requires me to make activities for children that keep them engaged in classroom instruction. I have a clear vision for how the common core curriculum is vertically aligned and build resources that keep that in mind.

"Making Ten” is an extremely helpful strategy to assist students with addition. Work through this activity to help students’ identify the numbers that easily make 10. This activity can be used to introduce the concept and then be placed into a math journal for reference. Try walking through the activity in small group to provide additional assistance. Students will create a rainbow as they connect the friendly numbers that make ten. After completing the rainbow, students will write the number

Adding Numbers with Rods and Ten Frames

One strategy that is taught to first grade students when adding two digit and one digit numbers is using rods and ten frames. This resource has an example and 14 problems for students to apply the strategy. To add the numbers students must first draw the starting number using rods and the ten frame. Then students will add the second number to their ten frame and 'make ten' to get the answer. This strategy and method are used when teaching 1.NBT.C.4 . Each problem has a tens/ones chart and two te

Partner Activity Mat- Subtraction

Students in my class use this activity mat when practicing how to subtract multiples of ten. (Common Core Standard 1.NBT.C.6) To play: Partner 1 selects a number and writes it in the first box. Partner 2 then crosses out that many place value rods and writes the correct answer. Students roles can alternate each problem. This game could

Turn Around Train- Working with the Commutative Property 1.OA.B.3

1.OA.B.3 This activity is great to be used in small groups, as independent or as a partner activity. Students can use manipulatives (unifix cubes) to see that switching the order of numbers in a number sentence does not change the sum. I usually pre-bag the cubes with matching colored pencils to assist the visual learners. To use students will need unifix cubes. Students then build a two color train with the cubes keeping same colors together. Students write a number sentence to match the trai

Teaching style

As my principal has said to me on many occasions, I am a "heads down, butts in the air" kind of teacher. What does that mean? I keep my students moving, working together, out of their seats, and engaged. They are learning when they are actively engaged in what they are doing. Activities have real world application and require additional rigor from students.

I worked events on weekends and tried to teach children any chance I could get. I decided to go back to school and get my masters in Elementary Education. After that I started teaching in 2009. I am certified to teach all subjects in grades 1-6 and math in grades 1-8. I was in the classroom for 5 years and recently took a math resource position. I feel I have finally found my passion and would love to share the resources I have been created for years!
