Wheel of Theodorus Pythagorean Theorem Art Project

Any chance I can to give students the ability to be creative in math, I take it! This is an enrichment project I use during my Pythagorean Theorem unit. Students are tasked with applying their knowledge of the Pythagorean Theorem to create a Wheel of Theodorus. The download is a word doc., so you have the ability to edit it to fit the needs of your classroom.

Volume and Surface Area of Composite 3D Figures

This packet contains 12 geometry problems that really challenge students. Students must first determine if the problem is asking them to calculate volume or surface area. Then, they need to determine what shapes make up the figure in order to perform the necessary calculations. Students work in small groups of 3-4. They work each of the problems together, one by one. When they come to a unanimous and conclusive answer, I ask them to raise a hand for a 'teacher check'. They earn points for a co

Volume of Cylinders, Cones, Spheres Problem Solving

This product contains 3 separate activities that reinforce volume calculation. Each activity challenges students to problem solve using word problems and diagrams to calculate the volume of cones, cylinders, and/or spheres. I used each of these three activities as a reinforcing activity the day after I introduced the volume formula for the different figures. The last activity incorporates 3D composite figures and challenges students to draw pictures and find the total volume of real-world comp

Parallel Lines Cut by Transverals, and Interior and Exterior Angles in Triangles

This can be used as a homework assignment, a class activity, or even enrichment! Students are challenged to recall the rules of congruency in corresponding angles, vertical angles, alternate exterior angles, and interior adjacent angles, and apply rules of solving equations to find the missing values. Also included are several problems that deal with interior and exterior angles of triangles. Again, students will need to solve algebraic equations in order to find the missing values. This item

Translations, Reflections, Rotations: Name, Justify, and Write the Rule!

This resource is a great tool to practice identifying transformation types and writing the algebraic rule to represent them. Great for a review activity, small groupwork, or intervention. There are 11 graphs that show translations, reflections, and rotations. There are six questions at the end that ask students to match the algebraic rule to the transformation type. This resource is a word document so once you download you may edit it to fit the needs of your students. In this activity, student

Problem Solving with Volume: Cylinders, Cones, and Spheres

This product contains 7 higher level word problems that are all associated with volume. Students will have to calculate the volume of composite 3D figures that are made up of cones, cylinders, and spheres. Students are encouraged to draw a picture and label each figure with dimensions before performing the calculations. This product is a word document, so you may edit it to fit the needs of your classroom and your students. Answer key is included!
Preview of Pythagorean Theorem on the Coordinate Plane

Pythagorean Theorem on the Coordinate Plane

This product includes 4 different multi-step problems that require students to use their knowledge of the Pythagorean Theorem and apply it on the coordinate plane. Students realize that the hypotenuse of a triangle is the quickest way to get from point A to point B. They also realize that in order to calculate this distance, they just use the Pythagorean Theorem. There are 4 different stories that students can read collectively as a group, or independently. They are challenged to find the dist

Geometry Vocabulary Quiz

This quiz assesses students two-dimensional geometry vocabulary. Special types of lines, angles, and shapes are all included.
Preview of Geometry and Area: Valentine's Day

Geometry and Area: Valentine's Day

This activity requires students to utilize their formulas for calculating the area of different two-dimensional geometric figures. Students will be given the opportunity to put a creative spin on the project, as they will be calculating the area of hearts and words to make a Valentine. There is a student example in the preview. You will notice the word LOVE as well as hearts that contain specific measurements - these are the items in which students will be working to compute area. They will work

Transformational Geometry Quiz

This is a quiz I wrote to assess my students knowledge on the rules of translations, reflections, and dilations. The quiz is 20 multiple choice questions, and it tests students ability to write transformational rules, as well as apply them. There are no rotation rules on this quiz. The quiz is 6 pages and there is an answer key that follows. I hope this resource is valuable! Thank you!
Preview of Valentine's Day Surface Area of Prisms

Valentine's Day Surface Area of Prisms

I use this lesson to introduce surface area to my 8th grade students. I have found that in the past, teaching surface area of prisms by using the formulas on the formula chart is not only unsuccessful, but incredibly frustrating for me and for the students alike. Big B versus little b? Capital P? Aren’t there 2 heights in this shape? Triangular prisms and rectangular prisms requiring different work, but using the same formula? It was my least favorite concept to teach, and I dreaded it every yea

Surface Area of Prisms and Cylinders Connect Four!

This resource is the perfect way to review total surface area and lateral surface area of prisms & cylinders. Students will have fun reviewing these types of problems through an exciting BINGO-style game. Students will try to get 4 in a row vertically, horizontally, diagonally, or maybe even 4-corners (you make the rules!). This resource includes 30 unique, printable bingo cards, a link to access the bingo cards digitally, and your bingo caller card/answer key. Upon purchase, message the sel
Preview of Volume of Cylinders, Cones, Spheres formula chart

Volume of Cylinders, Cones, Spheres formula chart

This is a "formula chart" for students to record their understandings of each of the three volume formulas, starting with a cylinder. Students should have the knowledge that the volume of a cylinder is equal to pi*radius(squared)*height; from there, they discover that the volume of a cone and a sphere are derived from the formula for the volume of a cylinder. There is an excellent YouTube video that I use to support the teachings of this, as shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZkhnIzBC

Pythagorean Theorem Groupwork Problem Solving Activity

This product is a packet of 8 challenging questions that require students to problem solve using the Pythagorean theorem. Students are required to work together to read the problem, draw a picture, and determine what needs to be solved. Students will need calculators on this assignment, as some of the numbers don't end up in perfect Pythagorean triples - the directions instruct them to round to the nearest tenth when applicable. This is a great tool to support problem solving and the use of

Areas, Perimeters, and Circumference: Preparing for Volume and SA

I created this activity for my 8th grade math class. I used it to "remind" students how to calculate the area and perimeter/circumference of a variety of 2D shapes in preparation for our Volume and Surface area units that are forthcoming. The preview includes instructions and more details on how you can use this resource to meet the needs of your students. Enjoy!
