TED's Disease challenges students to investigate a specific genetic disorder then use their findings to contribute to the global knowledge base via the creation of a TED ED learning module. This project was initially created for an AP Biology class, but could easily be adjusted for any number of courses. A couple examples of my students' work: Huntington's Disease - http://ed.ted.com/on/cIDw2gon#watch Achromatopsia - http://ed.ted.com/on/uPXFSwfM#watch Download Includes: -Driving question -St

Biology students often have difficulties understanding how genetic technology is applied in the real world. They have heard of genetic engineering, but have little idea of how it actually works. This project uses an engaging problem to help students understand the following: -How scientists identify specific genes. -How scientists isolate and remove specific genes from a strand of DNA. -How genes from one organism are transfered to another organism. -Ramifications of transgenic organisms Objec

Every biology teacher has the daunting task of teaching students about the major groups of animals in a very short time. Our students are asked to know all about body plans, behaviors, anatomy, reproduction, etc.. This project from Lab207 will help your students quickly identify evolutionary trends in development between all of the major groups of vertebrates and invertebrates. In addition they are asked to analyze and discuss various trends and connections. Animals compared include: Porifera,

The living world is composed of four, and only four, types of molecules. Without lipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, and proteins life as we know it would not exist. The presences of these molecules can be detected using very simple lab techniques. Through this lab student's will learn the procedures needed to detect the presence of these molecules and use their newfound skills to analyze a food of their choice. This investigation will ask students to use sudan red, benedict's solution, biure

Every Biology student should understand how to read, analyze, and construct a pedigree chart. What better way to help them grasp this task then to have them work on their own family. In addition to pedigrees, students should understand how genetic disorders are passed through families. This project from Lab207 addresses both of those needs. Through this engaging project students will learn about a disease and how to apply the principles of the pedigree chart. Objectives -Students will construc
