I have over 13 years experience teaching high school math. I started my career teaching in Quincy, Florida for 2 years. After that I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina for 3 years. I tried it back home where I grew up in Juneau, Alaska for 2 years. After leaving Alaska, I moved back to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where I taught for 4 years and I was the department chair for the last 3 years. I taught in Clarksville, TN for 2 years and was a Level 5 teacher my final year there. I recently graduated with my Masters in Mathematics Education, K - 8, and I currently teach at Juneau Douglas High School.

Investigating Points, Lines, and Planes Activity
This is a great activity I usually use the 2nd day of my Geometry classes. The first day they learned about points, lines, and planes, and were given a brief explanation on how to draw figures. For this activity I have the students work in groups of 2 or 3 and give them notecards, string, scissors, and tape (optional). They are required to "create" each statement using these materials. I walk around the room and sign off when they have it correct. I do NOT help them. I just say yes or no.

Coordinate Plane Areas
This activity has 6 problems of shapes on coordinate planes. You can copy the worksheet onto cards and cut them up so students have the opportunity to share cards and get up to work together.
The activity requires the students to find the area and perimeter of each figure by using the distance formula and recognize the base and height of the different shapes. Basic Geometry Properties Old Maid
This game practice basice properties used in Geometry: reflexive, symmetric, transitive, linear pair postulate, vertical angles theorem, segment addition postulate, angle addition postulate, definition of congruent segments, right angle congruence theorem, and definition of congruent angles.
To play the game you make copies of the 2 problem sheets on construction paper. Then you make one copy of the boy at the board (the old maid card). I usually make 10 sets of cards. Each set of cards needs

Segment Addition & Bisectors Test Recovery Worksheet
This worksheet has 15 problems dealing with segment addition postulate, segment bisectors, and midpoints.
I actually use it as a way for them to raise up their test grade. For each 2 problems they get correct, I will raise their grade 1%. After each test they have the opportunity to raise their test grade by doing extra problems. I only allow them to have one of the worksheets at a time and when they complete it I grade it and go over it with them if there is still some misunderstandings.

Geometry Quiz over translations, rotations, and reflections on the coordinate plane. This is a medium level difficulty quiz. It does not have any difficult questions, but it does a good job of assessing if students understand the important concepts of these 3 transformations. Can be used as a review of the 3 transformations also.

Surface Area and Volume of Spheres Dominos
This is a dominos game that is a great way for Geometry students to practice using their formulas for spheres. They are given the radius, diameter, circumference, area, or surface area and have to find the indicated measure. They are not given the volume and have to work backwards because they have not been taught how to do the 3rd root. But all other possible combinations are there.

Distance Formula Dominos
This dominos set has 13 different problems, each dealing with using the distance formula. It contains basic numbers, fractions, decimals, z coordinates, and given distance find the missing coordinate.
It is a great activity and students truly want to complete the dominos set. When cutting it out, cut down the middle dark vertical line ONLY. Each horizontal domino should be cut out also. For ease of grading, I suggest labeling the dominos with letters (don't put it in order or have it say s

This is a great way for your students to practice the midpoint point formula. There are basic midpoint point problems, 3-D midpoint problems, and midpoint problems that they have to find the end point.

Circle Definitions Puzzle
This Puzzle is can be used to assess student understanding of circle vocabulary. As an extension, once the students get the 9 peices together correctly in a square, they can use the blank squares to make peices to finish the outside border of the puzzle.
It is a great activity and students love it! I would copy and laminate the printed 9 peices of the puzzle, and let the students cut out their peices on plain paper.

Solving Equations Worksheet
This is a great worksheet to have the students do in class or as homework. I used it as the first homework assignment for the year in my Algebra 2 class. It gives them a variety of equations to solve and it does have no solution and infinite solutions problems.
It could be used in Geometry as a refresher to solving equations.

Teaching style
Each school that I have taught in has been considered a "low performing" school and I have always worked with students that come in lacking prior knowledge and the motivation to be successful.
I create and use a lot of activities and games that help keep my students engaged. A co-worker of mine calls me, "The Game Queen."
Awards & shining teacher moments
I was a Level 5 teacher for the 2011-2012 in Tennessee, with some of the highest scores in Algebra 2 for the school district (which included my inclusion class)

I graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1994. I attended Florida State University and earned my Bachelors degree in December 1998 for Curriculum and Instruction: Mathematics Education (6-12).
