Probability: Fidget the Probaility

This project is a fun engaging way for students to collect their own data and learn about Theoretical and Experimental Probability through self discovery and group learning. This packet included project directions, extensions, and worksheet assessments for both theoretical and experimental probability. You will need a fidget spinner for each group, but many students already have one they can bring to use. My students had a blast with it this year, and I hope yours will too!

Mean Absolute Deviation: Fidgeting Madness

I created this one/two day project, depending on your class time, to be fun way to learn or review Mean Absolute Deviation. When the fidget craze came to our school I decided...If you cant beat them, join them! The kids were active and engaged through out the entire project. This activity focuses the following TEKS – 8.1F-G (Process standards) – 8.11B (MAD) Special Note: You will need a spinner and a timer for each group. I bought a set of 5 for the class, but many kids brought their own too.

Experience

Teaching style

Project Based Learning is a big part of my class. I think it is crucial for students to know where they will use math in the real world and the projects I design give them that opportunity. Their main project for the year is their Interactive Notebook. They create their own textbook each year giving them the opportunity to take ownership in their leaning and giving me the opportunity to assess that learning along the way!

Awards & shining teacher moments

Teaching is often its own reward! But, I have been recognized by The Texas State Senate for "Exemplary Service and Significant Contributions to Math Teaching and Learning in Texas Schools." Fancy right? AND by my local radio station...my students nominated me for teacher of the month! It was really very sweet.

My own education history

I received my Bachelors from Texas A&M-Commerce with a double major in Math and Physics and a minor in Chemistry. After working in the "real-world", I returned to Texas A&M-Texarkana to pursue my Masters in Education.
