I always found it difficult to keep up with classroom jobs on a weekly basis. I created this job application which allows my students to apply for jobs they really want (meaning they'll actually get done). Since the job application adds an extra layer and takes a little more time, I only switch jobs every quarter. At the beginning of the quarter we review the jobs, students complete their application...selecting their top 3 choices. I do my best to work within those choices, however we all kn
This is the perfect persuasive writing prompt for November. Ask your students to imagine they are a turkey and they must convince someone not to cook them for Thanksgiving dinner.
This project is a great way to keep your class engaged just before Winter Break. It's a hands-on approach to reviewing geometry knowledge in a fun, educational way. It is necessary to collect donations of items from families, unless you are able to fund the project on your own. The document includes an outline of the project, time management, teacher tips, list of possible geometric figures to include, a gingerbread house planning page and a family letter explaining the project & the types

I use these evaluation forms when doing cooperative group projects. I have students fill out both; one reflecting upon themselves and one evaluating their group members. I do factor it into their grade for projects; 5-10 points for their self evaluation and 1-3 points for towards each group members grade, depending on if they were rated negative (1 point), check (2 points) or plus (3 points). I copy it front and back to save paper. I also keep the group evaluation "confidential" so students

This weekly report is completed by both the student and the teacher. I always did weekly reflections as morning work every Friday. Students completed the top half, either finishing the sentences (1st & 2nd quarter) or writing a letter to their family (3rd & 4th quarter)...then they rated their behaviors for the week. After turning it in to me, I would rate their behaviors next to theirs and fill in any late/missing homework assignments. I'd ask families to sign the weekly reflections over th

I created this as a math extension--perfect for the end of the year, end of a unit, time filler activity, before spring break, etc. Each student received the following handout and learned about the project before we took a walk around our building together...stopping along the way for students to complete the attached table. Students were then put into groups to share the math they located in our school. With those groups they were then sent out around the building (after having a plan) to ph
Two Stars and a Wish is perfect when doing a class gallery walk, sharing projects/PowerPoint, or getting students to give feedback to their peers. The idea of Two Stars and a Wish is that students provide 2 compliments and one suggestion/want. This way the positive outweighs the negative, but students still have some feedback to take into consideration that would possibly improve their final product. For example, perhaps my stars were..."I like the design, Your color scheme was consistent" bu
