About the store
I started out teaching alternative special education to 6th graders in 1997. In 1998, I wanted to teach science because it is my passion and moved to an alternative high school where I taught all sciences from grades 9-12 to people ages 16-22. When funding was no longer available and our school was shut down 6 years later, I moved to a junior high school in the area. Many of my former students said their hate for school started there and I wanted to be able to help them along instead of seeing them drop out...that was 8 years ago. I still work with at-risk students trying to help them value and desire an education and imparting them with knowledge that will help them become life long learners. I have training in many different areas and serve as a new teacher mentor, state assessor, and still to this day take classes to help me better my professional life. I have also been trained through the following programs: LASIP - 3 years LAgearup ABC Connections - 2 years Math Tips Intech - 2 years La State Assessor Trained LA State Mentor Trained

What is a watershed? Hands on activity

I took this actual activity from 3 different sources. One was set for a demonstration, two were set for kids to do - one had one step and one had 2 steps. To extend what was there, I took what was just the activity and changed into a hands on with questions and a map added to it and put it in student friendly written instructions instead of verbal instructions. I am using this in an environmental science class that has freshmen to seniors. It is a very simple and cheap activity that really i

i used a project similar to this when I started teaching years ago where I had students design a biome or as I told them, their perfect place to live. I used it to introduce biomes because it has them thinking about climate, landforms, plant and animal adaptations, location, and human needs. When we finish the unit, I have them take their initial assignment back and try to fit it as closely into one specific biome and they compare the two to see if their ideal place would exist (I have never had

This is a picture of the human skeleton I had years back that I took and photo shopped for students to be able to label in a quiz. I did not draw the skeleton, but did get rid of the words and put new arrows and lines in to allow students to label the bones. It came in very handy and I used it all of my middle school teaching years after. It may be a little too elementary for high schoolers, but could be a good review for them on the basics. I do not have a key with it but it is so basic tha

This is an introductory inquiry lab where students learn about the characteristics of life. They get a mystery substance and have to use their experiences and observations to deduce if the mystery substance is alive. I used it with seventh graders and it is geared toward upper elementary and middle school students. There are pre-lab and post-lab questions along with the experiment itself.

This assignment has been used with a 9th grade integrated science class. The students in here are mostly lower level and special needs. I use it as a culminating activity after doing an overview of the 6 kingdoms at the conclusion of my classification unit. I have done a very similar project with my 7th graders when I taught them and it worked out very well. You may need to edit the font to make it work out because when it generated the thumbnails it looks like it is a little off.

This was created when I started teaching middle school to introduce them to the library. Each core teacher took their kids to the library once a month and had to create an information resources lesson for their kids. This is a very short and concise sheet on a famous scientist. They complete simple research to get information about a scientist of my choosing. I did not include a list of scientists but one could easily be obtained through google if you do not have enough. My students chose from a

This lab is a lab that we did with a group of students at a wetlands experience camp. I worked doing wetlands camp for 2 years and also do a program that is geared at fun learning at the local library. This is one of the labs that we did. The kids loved it. I took what we did and put it into a formal format so I could use it with my students in environmental science. These students range from 9th -12th grade. Since we live in coastal Louisiana where erosion is evident and a big problem, we tak

I used this activity to let me see where my students are in relation to their objective - trace the flow of energy through ecosystems. I noticed most of my kids understood the concept of energy transfer but could not make connections to certain aspects of it and it gave me someplace to focus in order to address their misconceptions. I teach 9-12 Environmental Science in a mixed ability class ranging from extremely low to top achievers. I try to design activities that allows all students to sh

I created this puzzle to aid my students in studying the main points we discussed in class the lecture. I used it as an elected homework assignment. This means I put it on google classroom and they can choose to or not to complete this assignment. If they successfully complete it, they get 5 bonus points. Students love puzzles so this is a great activity to most of them. This is the first year I have implemented this as an intervention to remediate and improve student success. To my surprise, th

It restates the ideas we have discussed in class as well as expanding on some of these concepts. I searched the websites and wrote the questions from each site myself, so I can attest to the answers being on that site. The answers on the key, however, are largely the result of me copying and pasting the answers (after all the answers should come from the website t

I have the examview file if you use it and would like to upload it. Email me and I can send it to you. I am not selling the content, but my time and effort to put it together in this format. It is in a word document and can easily be manipulated into any format. I will email an examview file if requested after purchase. Email me or leave me a mes

I designed this in order to give my kids a visible format to use when we start the biomes unit. Because I am very limited on copies, I make one and place it on the document camera and have the students copy it down. I explain to them that this is the information that they will be required to have for each biome as we go through them and they will get the information from my lecture, text book, videos, ect. but I will not sit there and spoon feed them what goes on the paper. They will get a list

In order to make up classtime due to the covid pandemic that caused us to miss school, our district has all teachers creating assignments that will make up time missed in class. Each activity should take no more than 35 minutes to complete and should contain rigorous academically related work. This was the first one that I just made and assigned to my students. It is a short hunter-gatherer hyperdoc that I created. The last two parts are student created and has varying results, but the key for t

I used this when I taught 6th grade social studies as an alternate assignment when I was out one day. The kids did a good job with it and I actually can say I enjoyed reading them! With the material, it can be geared at grade levels higher and used in ELA as well. It is in word and can be editted as wanted. It is a writing assignment where the kids use creative writing and their social studies skill from the unit.

Teaching style

I like my classroom to be a safe place where students can succeed and express themselves as they take home positive learning experiences. I am not a dictator in my class. I like to facilitate and let the children learn by doing.
