This activity can be used in upper elementary for students to have a hands-on way to explore the effects of weathering and erosion. This is an easy to set up lab with opportunities for students to observe and make hypotheses.

This packet includes a "quick check" that can be used as a short quiz or an exit ticket activity. It also includes a homework assignment that comes in an advanced and an average/low level. The homeworks look very similar to the eye, but the problem complexity varies, so students will not be able to tell just by glancing at their sheet and their neighbors' sheets who would be labeled as "high" and who would be "average/low."
Each of the homework assignments ask students to identify absolute va
On my first day, I had my students fill out these "baseball cards" with information about themselves. They backed them on colorful construction paper and I printed pictures of each of them to attach to the cards. These are handing on my "Fifth Grade All-Stars" bulletin board, and the kids love coming into the classroom and seeing themselves!

This research project is designed to have students research a chosen natural disaster, use a checklist to keep track of their research, collect their research using Padlet.com, and then ultimately create an informational pamphlet from what they have found.
This artistic math project helps students to work with short fraction word problems. They must solve a few fraction multiplication word problems in order to learn the size of their fish tank and the number of each type of colorful fish in their tank. After they have solved the problems, they can actually create the tank using whatever art supplies are found around the classroom. This project provides practice in multiplying fractions, changing mixed numbers into improper fractions, measuring,
This is a two part sheet that can be printed two-sided. One side has four paragraphs from Because of Winn Dixie that all contain similes. Students can read the paragraphs and identify the similes by underlining or highlighting.
On the next page, the similes have been removed and there are empty lines in their place. Here, the students must construct their own similes that retain the meaning of the paragraph. This is a chance for students to show that they understand the similes in the conte
In this personalized activity, students must "buy" their names. Students are given $150 to spend on their first, middle, and last names. Each letter is assigned a money value, they either gain or spend for each letter. Students will be competing see who has the most money left after buying their entire full names. Luckily, this activity does not penalize students who have longer names, because they have a chance of both losing or gaining money for each letter.
This is a fun way to practice
This assessment tool can be used as a formal assessment or a pre-assessment to check where your students are with their understanding of polygon attributes. The quiz has a few different types of questions, so students will be able to show their knowledge in different ways. Though it focuses more on quadrilateral attributes, it also includes attributes of triangles and other polygons. Answer key is included.
As an aside, the "Bonus" section is dependent upon a prior lesson or activity in clas
This is a simple visual to use with students who are having a hard time with friendship issues. This will help give them concrete steps about whether to move forward in a friendship or end a friendship that is not working out.
I used this graphic organizer and writing prompt along with a series of short articles that I found online for my students to do a little research and writing on plant habitats. The habitats included the desert, the tundra, the arctic, the rain forest, etc. The graphic organizer helped the students organize their thoughts clearly before beginning to write. The "hashtags" on the organizer are for students to hashtag their articles to find a few quick main ideas, and the other sections of the o
This includes a complete lesson plan, along with links to helpful videos, three short descriptions, and two activities. This lesson is for an introduction to the rock cycle and provides students with the opportunity to learn about igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks and learn to identify each. It also includes a hands on portion that students will love when they have the opportunity to make each type of rock using play-doh.
This activity can be done as a regular partner practice or used as part of math centers. It is an abbreviated version of the beloved "Battleship" game in which partners plot "ships" within any of the four quadrants of a coordinate plane. They then take turns guessing their partner's ships' locations and are told whether they have "hit" or "missed." The specific directions, along with an example, are all included on the page. The students enjoy the competitive game while getting extra practic

This is a fun project to do at the beginning of the school year. The students will answer questions about themselves and design their own smartphone. These slides can be assigned to students via Google Classroom as an extension after learning about area. Students will find the area of various rooms in a house, then use the "store" of tile, carpet, and household options to calculate the price of their renovations.
This slideshow includes links for the articles and audio of the articles at the middle reading level. This slideshow contains some of the key steps of the Unit 1 project in "week 6" of MyView for third grade. I find it challenging for students to be flipping through pages in their books, managing handouts, and answering in the limited space given in the books. This slideshow takes some of the important elements of the project, breaks it into 5 manageable steps, and keeps the information all i
In this fun activity, students will plan their own extravagant Thanksgiving feast! Students will decide who they are inviting for their big dinner and will compose a shopping list of items. (Teachers can determine, based on student level, how many items should be included on the list). Then comes the fun part, students can either estimate the cost of their items or look up the cost online (my students found great success with Google shopping). At the end, students must use multiplication and
