This is an activity for students to become fluent with the hundreds chart and develop number sense. This is meant for students to start at a number and complete the missing numbers in the puzzle excerpt from the hundreds chart. For example, the number 53 would have the number 63 below it, 43 above it, 52 to its left, and 54 to its right. This is a game to be played in groups of two. Students take turns rolling the dice and putting a marker on the clock that shows the time with that number as the hour. This activity helps students practice nonstandard measurement and become familiar with the standard measurement of a foot. Students measure a ruler with many nonstandard units of measurement (links, bear counters, paper clips, etc.). A half-sheet is included for students to document their findings. This would work well as a math station in Math Workshop. It could be differentiated by teaching more advanced students to measure to fractional parts (halves or fourths).

Dominos are a great hands-on way for students to practice addition. Computation skills can be more easily developed when students have manipulatives in math, and the dots on the dominos support students in learning addition. This is a summative assessment that includes text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world connections. Over a three or four day period, I read aloud a book at the start of our Reading block. They can choose one type of connection they would like to make that day. After reading a book each day and having them make a new type of connection, this makes a great summative assessment for making connections within their reading!
