About the store
After working for the Department of Corrections as an officer (male facility) I was asked to take a position as the "At Risk Teenager Coordinator" for a local organization. Working with them inspired me to switch my field of study from forensic psychology to Special Education. Throughout my time in college courses I served as a tutor (for reading, math, and ESOL students), a substitute teacher, and coaching sports for children K-8. In the realm of Special Education, I feel most comfortable teaching Intensive Academics, Intensive Intervention, Behavior/Emotional disorders (Social Behavior classrooms) and students with Autism (Social Communications) Aside from working in the schools and privately tutoring, I also work with numerous non-profit agencies with children of all ages.

This lesson integrates science and reading. Provided is a chart to use before, during, after reading, an activity, as well as pictures of this activity/lesson.

This PPT was designed as an introduction to recycling. The students are given numerous ideas of how they can help their community, nation, and world by recycling. Usually, I follow this lesson by having the students do a small clean up project inside/outside the school. The following day (after washing some of the items) they turn the recycled goods into art or something they can use (such as a pencil holder)

Earth Space Science Unit Review Game
This is a homemade board game using question cards that reiterate the vocabulary words in a 1st-3rd grade science lesson. The game cards are arranged so that they can be printed front first, then the answers on the back. I have provided a picture of my actual game board. Color cards, directions, vocabulary words, and other suggestions included. Personally, I make this on a poster board or foam board--- it's quick, it's easy, and easy to laminate!

This is one of my behavior assessments. Personally, I do not believe in "moving colors" or publicly displaying their names on a board where their name moves "down." Agricultural Map of China Hands On Experience
This lesson is designed to teach students important elements of agricultural maps. Students will use hands on materials (soy beans, millet, wheat, and rice) to glue on their map of China.

This form is given to all students at the beginning of the year. We review it on the first day (and for the first few weeks) I also give them various scenarios and we role play how they are expected to act/ behave.
It may seem extremely strict, but a well managed class knows the rules, follows the rules, and respects the teacher that sticks to his/her own rules.

Let's Travel- Cooperative Learning with Geography and Math
This cooperative learning activity integrates social studies and math. Students are given an invitation to begin their travels. Students are assigned to a group (4 per group) The banker is given an allotted amount of money (I suggest $2,000-$4,000, which can vary for each group) Each student will have a different role and they will work together to complete the task at hand. Parent Letter
This is a welcome letter I designed to send home on the first day of school. I send additional information and tend to change this brochure regularly. I also send out weekly/monthly newsletters and bulletins.
I try to make sure I keep in contact with parents via bulletins, newsletters, blog sites, email, telephone, or even home visits if necessary.

Teaching style
Student-centered classroom. Most of my lessons and instruction are geared towards group/partner work. Cooperative learning and themed units are typically my teaching style for all ages and classrooms. Culture, diversity, culture, and concepts of humility are all themes found in my lessons and daily teaching practices.

Additional biographical information
Children classified or diagnosed with behavior/emotional disorders, social communication issues (generally falling into the Autism Spectrum), Learning disabilities, and other areas of Special Education are all areas I feel most comfortable. However, I have a great deal of experience working with ESOL/ESL students, as I tend to work with children from low-income families, migrant communities, and live in an area with a high immigration/migrant population. I work with numerous non-profits and community organizations that reach out to families and children in the community. I believe getting involved with community service work is important as a teacher, but also as a person. Knowing the resources located within our own community can only help benefit our students, parents, coworkers, and others in the community.
