Fireworks Industry Lesson and Economic Sources
This product contains a sample lesson plan, two pages of data sources about the fireworks industry, two pages of worksheets for students to complete, and a sample answer key to show understanding of the following I-can for 6th grade students in Ohio (This can easily be adapted or used for other grades as well!):

Line and Bar Graph Assessment
This line and bar graph assessment includes two versions. The first version (A) has one line and one bar graph for students to plot.
The second version (B) can be used for enrichment, as a second attempt assessment or for older grade levels. The data is a little bit more difficult and have a larger range.
A Spanish language (Español) version is included! Version A can be printed and given to your English Language Learner.

Inspector Flytrap Novel Study
Inspector Flytrap is a Venus Flytrap that solves mysteries with his assistant, Nina the goat! Multiple mysteries are solved in this story and culminates with all of the characters coming together for one last hoo-rah! This novel by Tom Angleberger is very humorous and helps students make predictions to help solve the mysteries alongside the characters. It is geared for students in grades 1-4 but low readers in grade five might also enjoy the silliness of this book.

African Maps: Climate and Culture Connections
Using two maps students will answer four questions to connect a political and climate/agricultural map. Students will also connect the climate and political map to answer questions regarding migrations of the Bantu people and where people settled in Africa.
The first page, if not printed in color, may be necessary to project for students to use during their work.

Paper Airplane Lab
This lab can be used as an introduction to the scientific method or as a supplement to a forces and motion unit.
This usually takes about 3 days to complete and students investigate the effect of a variable (from 3 to choose from) on the distance that a paper airplane flies.
Students work in groups of 3 or 4 to complete this activity.

Patterns of Planetary Motion Assessment Bundle
This assessment bundle contains three versions of a quiz based on revolution, rotation, seasons, day and night and other standards relating to patterns of planetary motion.
An accommodated quiz is included that contains reduced answer choices, chunking for matching questions, etc.
A modified quiz is included that focuses on key learning targets.
Each quiz has between 13 and 17 questions that include: vocabulary matching, multiple choice, selected answer, and written short response questions.

Sweet Experiments- Golden Sponge Cakes Lab

Echolocation Focused Free Write
Focused free writes are a great way to integrate writing into the science classroom. Students are given a time limit of four minutes to answer a prompt using multiple pieces of evidence to support their answer. This is not meant to be a graded assignment, but rather a formative assessment to see what students understand about sound reflection and the echolocation of bats. If this is graded for content, students should not be given a time limit for this prompt.

I was nominated and featured in the 2013 Center for Digital Education (CDE) Yearbook Issue, a magazine that showcases innovative teaching techniques using technology. I was one of fifty educators chosen based on an independent study I completed to integrate intercultural communication with technology while focusing on standards. All of the software and internet programs used for this study were free, open use and allowed the students to establish pen pals in Pakistan. I presented at the Ohio Confederation of Teacher Education Organizations’ Spring Conference Roundtables in March 2013 for this study.
