One of the teachers at my school was having trouble finding some 3D geometric shapes to make her test with, so I made a few for her. Then one thing led to another, and now I have a whole bunch of clip art that I thought a Math teacher might find useful. I have used these images to create tests, task cards, scavenger hunts, and practice work for Math small group and centers. This file is not meant to be used as a presentation. The idea is that you can copy/paste whatever you need from here a

This lesson was originally made for 10th grade Geometry for our unit on describing translations of the form (x,y) ---> (x+2,y-4) and the like. In this lesson, the students have to navigate their triangle through a video game environment to reach the goal by using translations. The first part of the map has outlines to show where the triangle should be moving. In the second half, the students get to choose their own route to navigate the underworld and save the princess! Also, included

This scavenger hunt contains volume application problems. Every question is essentially a word problem and all of them require a bit more than just finding the volume of the given shape. My goal was to try and create questions similar to what I can expect my students to see on the state exams, that they will take at the end of the year. The file also includes two different Exit Ticket printable pages for use after the activity/lesson to further check for understanding. Updated file: June 2017

Exit tickets are a quick and easy way to find out how well students have mastered a topic. Hand them out with about 5-10 minutes left in class and have students turn them in as their "ticket" to leave class. Often you can use the time between classes to quickly check over the answers to determine how well your students did and adjust your next lesson if necessary. The types of equations covered are: 2-Step Equations – basic 2-Step Equations – negative answer 2-Step Equations – negative

This is an animated presentation that attempts to show the reasons for the area formulas for some of the basic shapes. I originally made it because I thought that if students could see where the formula for the area of a trapezoid came from then it wouldn't seem so intimidating to them. The slides have minimal on-screen text because they were meant to be used to facilitate teacher-classroom discussion. The 2nd half of the presentation shows some ways to deal with areas of non-standard p

About the store

Experience

I taught Algebra/Geometry in High school for 4 years. I also have been teaching pre-AP Algebra and 8th grade Math in middle school for the last 6 years.

Teaching style

Technology heavy teaching style. I made my own virtual whiteboard with a Wii remote and I use powerpoint presentations and things like the eInstruction remotes all the time.

Awards & shining teacher moments

My students think I'm awesome, does that count? hehe And the old saying about always a bridesmaid and never a bride applies to me and the teacher of the year voting at my school. They like me enough to keep putting me on the ballot, but I never seem to win. Personally, I think it's because I'm in a portable building and they think less of me because of that. :)

My own education history

BS in Math from the University of Texas

Additional biographical information

I am a native Houstonian who is back home teaching math to at-risk kids. This is definitely NOT what I saw myself doing when I was a student, but I love every minute of it. I am also a father to an awesome, rambunctious 3 year old boy.
