This file includes: 1. A Powerpoint Presentation (17 slides) with TWO activities embedded, in which students will do a hands on lab on mixtures (trail mix) and solutions (Kool-Aid). The presentation also includes a 'partner talk' opportunity, and an exit ticket prompt. 2. A mixtures/solutions foldable for you to use however you see fit. 3. 'Fill-in-the-blank' notes to go along with the presentation 4. A modified version of the presentation notes, for your students who need some differentiation
This presentation was used as a quick review on conductors and insulators before completing a lab testing electrical conductors. (In TX, conductors and insulators is more of a focus in 4th grade but reviewed again in 5th grade to classify based on physical properties). This also includes directions to complete a lab in which students build simple circuits then test their objects for electrical conductivity.
It is in powerpoint so it is completely editable.

This is a description and rubric of a project I had my students complete after we were done with our unit on forms of energy (mechanical, electrical, light, thermal, sound).
Students get to choose one of the the forms of energy and make an anchor chart according to the project description/rubric. They worked in groups and made the anchor charts on regular chart paper, but you can use manila paper if needed.
These were great to hang around the room! Students got very creative. :)
I had students complete this project after we studied weather and weather maps/symbols. Students are given different cities that they must find/place on the map. (Maps are not included in this download--but you can find plenty of blank US maps online!)
Students are also given descriptions of the weather going on in those cities, but they have to practice using the correct weather map symbols.
You can have GT/GATE students come up with their own weather. :)
I absolutely LOVED using this in my classroom after our benchmark! I had my students reflect on their learning and their test and I believe it truly made a difference for them. This file is in a PPT file so it is editable to fit your needs/subject. I used it for my 5th graders and can definitely see older students using it as well (a variation/modified version can be used for younger grades; page one). I had my students reflect in a four step process:
1. Self Reflect: Students went through each
This activity is a great way to review or introduce mixtures and solutions. I used it to introduce Texas TEKS 5.5C, 5.5D. But it can be adjusted and used in other grades as well. It goes over definitions and examples. It also prompts students to question how to separate different mixtures. The presentation also review solutes and solvents by using the hands-on activity that the students participated in. This product also includes notes for students to complete during the presentation and a modi
Students come up with a survey question to ask their class mates, then create 4 possible choices for their peers to answer with. Students then practice making a tally table, frequency table, and a bar graph with their data.
File is a Word Doc, so you have edit as needed.
This file includes a PDF and PPT (editable) version of the handout that I have my students complete if they did not pass a test. There are enough rows to correct 13 questions. You can edit this on the PPT file. I also included a "Texas TEK" space, which you may change for your state's standards. Need an easy and low-prep way to introduce weather and climate to your kiddos? (TEK 5.8A) This product includes an easy to follow Powerpoint presentation (PDF version is included as well) that gives students definitions, key words, embedded writing activities and explanations on why it is important to know what weather and climate are. There is a hand out you can give to students as a note guide to follow along with the PowerPoint. There is also a 2-page Frayer model included so that your stude
This is a rubric and project description that I gave my students after we had studied food webs. Students were given the choice to complete the project on manila paper or using the Popplet App on an iPad.
For the project students are required to:
- select an ecosystem
-Find at least 10 organisms
-Create the food web with arrows showing flow of energy
-List FOOD CHAINS found within the food web.
Students choose two items then complete 5 stations on the physical properties of their items.
Stations included and Tools Needed:
1. Measuring Mass (double-pan balance)
2. Measuring Volume (graduated cylinder)
3. Magnetism (magnets)
4. Relative Density (water and container)
5. Other Qualitative Observations (hand lenses)
This document is a Word Doc so it is easily editable to fit your needs. Can be for 2nd-5th grade. You can use triple beam balances instead of [an balances for upper grades.
A short presentation on density for students. This goes over what density means, then explains RELATIVE density. There is also a group activity for students to do at the end. Students will each choose their own item to test, then make a table in their journal to record their observations.
This is a PPT so it is completely editable to fit your needs.
Download and install the following fonts to have the presentation look like the one in the preview:

You can use this document to list your students and the accommodations that they receive. I use it as a "quick reference" instead of looking through students' IEPs and 504 plans. It's in a spreadsheet so you can edit it with your students and print it. You can check off the accommodations that your students have or type in.
I included the most common accommodations that I've found in student IEPs/504 plans, but you can easily edit to input any other accommodations you find necessary.
Students create and design their own 'town', and practice using their coordinates. Project includes, coordinate plane, a place for a 'key', and a page for student to give directions from place to place.
In a Word doc so it is completely editable.
Short quiz on the causes and effects of fast and slow land changes on earth. These are fill in the blank and open-ended. Topics mentioned: volcanos, erosion, earthquakes. Completely editable.
This handout can be used as students rotate through quick stations where they get to use and try different tools.
Tools used/tried: goggles, thermometer, hand lens, and ruler (students get to practice metric and to measure in 'paperclips'. For the hand lens, i had students look at pennies/other coins.
