My class really needed some motivation to include details from the text in their reading response questions. So, I came up with the theme of "Creating a Golden Response" The metaphor is that they start off with an empty wheel barrow and as they find relevant details they are collecting gold nuggets. I call it sifting for gold! Finally, after fully responding to the question they have a full wheel barrow.
