Before completing a transition portion of an IEP, I would make sure that I had completed this elementary career interest inventory with the student. This allows me to ask them a line of questioning that allows me to better understand their interests. As I ask them the questions, I write down their responses, not only to see what area of career they would be interested in, but also to analyze their communication skills.
