✅5 COMPARING FRACTION MINI LESSONS
There are five mini-lessons included that students can glue into their notebooks to help them have something to reference after learning each of the five comparing fraction strategies.
✅10 COMPARING FRACTION WORKSHEETS
In the ten worksheets included, students practice shading in fractions to compare, using greater than and less than to compare fractions, comparing fractions on a number line, using fraction strips to compare fractions, using drawings to compare fractions, using 1/2 as a benchmark fraction to compare fractions, and much more.
✅2 CUT AND GLUE ACTIVITIES
There are TWO cutting and gluing activities where students have to use their knowledge of comparing fractions to put the fractions in the correct categories.
✅ 4 COMPARING FRACTIONS ERROR ANALYSIS PAGES
Students look at four different work samples and decide which pages are right and which are wrong based on what is shown. These are perfect for math talk or whole group discussions. The error analysis pages help with evaluating common third grade math mistakes.
✅COMPARING FRACTIONS FLASH CARDS
There are also 25 comparing fraction game cards included as a second game. The game cards can be used in three different ways: comparing fractions war, gluing them in notebooks as an interactive mini-lesson, or spreading them out across the floor in a whole group activity from smallest to biggest. More detailed instructions included inside the resource. Use the way that best fits the needs of your class.
✅COMPARING FRACTIONS MATH SORT
This is a sorting activity where students put a smile or a frown emoji on top of each task card. If the comparing fractions equation is correct, a happy smile is put on top of it. If the wrong comparison symbol was used, the students put a frown on top of the task card. There are 2 versions included: comparing fractions with pictures and comparing fractions in number form. 48 cards are included in each game.
✅ GAME #1: BUILD A CASTLE GAME
Each player gets a background to build their castle on. Playing cards and castle pieces go in the middle. Each time you get an answer correct, you earn a piece for your castle. Chance cards are provided to spice up gameplay. You never know who’s going to win with these included! The first person to finish getting 10 items in their castle wins!
✅GAME #2: BUILD A SNOWGLOBE GAME
A comparing fractions game that your students will LOVE is included in this pack. Each player gets a background to build their snowglobe on. Playing cards and snowglobe pieces go in the middle. Each time you get an answer correct, you earn a piece for your snowglobe. Chance cards are provided to spice up gameplay. You never know who’s going to win with these included! The first person to finish getting 10 items in their snowglobe wins!
✅ GAME #3: COMPARING FRACTIONS WHOLE CLASS GAME
I call this game "Bucket Filler!". Set up the task cards all around the room for students. Print enough of each task card for every student. Give each student a recording sheet. Let students wander the room and solve each task card. When they solve a card, they bring it to the teacher to be checked. If it's correct, they get to drop the task card in a bucket. At the end of gameplay, the teacher draws names out of the bucket. Those students earn a small prize as a reward (an eraser, a pencil, etc).
✅ GAME #4: COMPARING FRACTIONS RACING GAME
This game is called "Line Them Up!". In the game, students race to see which team can line their cards up in the correct order first. Here are the steps to play. Mix up each set of cards well. Give a set of cards to each team. Start the race. Students find the START card first. They put this down. Once the start card is found, students find the answer to the equation. They continue to “Line Them Up” until they reach the FINISH card. The first team done wins!
All games come in color and black and white versions.

- Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
