Description

This is a powerpoint presentation explaining how to determine the two variables from any scenario (without looking at or having the question present). I developed this lesson because my students were not only struggling with Independent/Dependent variables, but they couldn't even figure out what the two variables were!!

I have developed 3 criteria that I teach them to look for to determine the variables in a situation. (Then once we have the two variables, the next step is to determine which one is independent/dependent).

This presentation teaches the 3 criteria and then gives 7 examples where they have to determine if the item is a variable or not (using the 3 criteria). Next, they are given 4 more situations and have to determine the two variables in each one. The last question is multiple choice.

Teaching notes and key are included for the teacher in the notes section of each slide. If your students cannot correctly figure out what the 2 variables are in every scenario, then this powerpoint is for you!! 17 slides.

For practice associated with this powerpoint presentation, please check out my Identifying Variables Practice.
