WHAT'S INCLUDED?

✅MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION WORD PROBLEMS MINI LESSON

This unit also includes a mini-lesson or interactive notebook page with photos showing you how to help students glue the notes into their notebooks. This gives students something to reference when they get stuck or need help while doing homework at home. Students practice with words that normally mean multiply and divide to start to get familiar with what terms to look for.

✅10 WORD PROBLEM WORKSHEETS

I created this unit to help my students better grasp properties with 10 word problem worksheets that help them practice multiplication and division word problems. There are even a few addition and subtraction equations thrown in to really challenge third graders and make sure they're understanding what the word problems are asking. There are plenty of multiplication and division word problem worksheets to choose from.

✅ 4 ERROR ANALYSIS PAGES

Students look at four different work samples and decide which pages are right and which are wrong based on what is shown. These are perfect for math talk or whole group discussions. The error analysis pages help with evaluating common third-grade math mistakes.

✅ FOUR CORNERS ACTIVITY

Students play 4 corners but with a math concept--word problems! Students are broken up into four teams and each operation (multiplication, division, addition and subtraction) are placed in each corner of the room. Students go to the corner of the room they believe the word problem is describing when it is their turn and have a chance to earn points for their team.

✅ GAME #1: FOOTBALL GAME

Place a football in the middle of your field. move the football forward or backward depending on if the question is answered correctly. Each time you get to the touchdown line, you earn a point! All questions included practice multiplication and division word problems. Chance cards are included to change the ball's movement or help you move ahead in the game.

✅ GAME #2: BUILD A FARM GAME

Each player gets a background to build their farm on. Playing cards and pieces go in the middle. Each time you get an answer correct, you earn a piece for your farm. Chance cards are provided to spice up gameplay. You never know who’s going to win with these included! The first person to finish getting 10 items on their farm wins!

✅ GAME #3: RACING GAME

This game is called "Line Them Up!". In the game, students race to see which team can line their cards up in the correct order first. Here are the steps to play. Mix up each set of cards well. Give a set of cards to each team. Start the race. Students find the START card first. They put this down. Once the start card is found, students find the answer to the equation. They continue to “Line Them Up” until they reach the FINISH card. The first team done wins!

✅GAME #4: MONSTER ARMY

Each student gets to hold one monster sign. Those are the monsters they are in charge of. The first player to get all 6 monsters from their monster army wins! Place all the playing cards face down and spread out in front of everyone so all cards can be seen. Someone says go. Everyone grabs a card and solves it using a whiteboard/paper. If the card belongs to them, they get to keep it. If not, they have to put it back in the middle. It’s a race to see who can find all of their cards first. Whoever finds all of their cards for their “Monster Army” first, wins!

✅ GAME #5: WHOLE CLASS GAME

I call this game "Bucket Filler!". Set up the task cards all around the room for students. Print enough of each task card for every student. Give each student a recording sheet. Let students wander the room and solve each task card. When they solve a card, they bring it to the teacher to be checked. If it's correct, they get to drop the task card in a bucket. At the end of gameplay, the teacher draws names out of the bucket. Those students earn a small prize as a reward (an eraser, a pencil, etc).

Some of the worksheets and games also include addition and subtraction word problems. Students need to learn the difference between all four operations when conquering word problems. A color and black and white version are included for each game and activity.

  • TEKS 3.5B: represent and solve one- and two-step multiplication and division problems within 100 using arrays, strip diagrams, and equations

This aligns with Florida BEST Standards (B.E.S.T.)

  • MA.3.NSO.2.2 Explore multiplication of two whole numbers with products from 0 to 144, and related division facts.
  • MA.3.NSO.2.4 Multiply two whole numbers from 0 to 12 and divide using related facts with procedural reliability.

My students have loved the first game we have played so far! It is the Football one and they are practicing their word problems like I had hoped! I like how there are other game cards included, such as "fumbled the ball - lose a turn," or "you scored a touchdown," etc. They kids think it is hilarious!
