Description

This is an interactive google slide that covers multiplying a fraction by a fraction.

This lesson is perfect for distance learning or as a digital center.

In this lesson students learn how to multiply a fraction by a fraction in contextual situations and by using visuals. Students are then able to practice labeling different visuals and multiplying fractions. Several slides in this lesson can be used as an anchor chart or digital poster.

This lesson goes great with my previous lesson on Multiplying Fractions and Whole Numbers.

This activity is ready to use! It can easily be assigned in your Google classroom by choosing the "make a copy for each student" function.

I would really love any feedback! Please leave a review! By leaving a review, you will be earning credits that you can apply towards future products. Thank you so much!

Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction.
Interpret the product (𝘒/𝘣) Γ— 𝘲 as a parts of a partition of 𝘲 into 𝘣 equal parts; equivalently, as the result of a sequence of operations 𝘒 Γ— 𝘲 Γ· 𝘣. For example, use a visual fraction model to show (2/3) Γ— 4 = 8/3, and create a story context for this equation. Do the same with (2/3) Γ— (4/5) = 8/15. (In general, (𝘒/𝘣) Γ— (𝘀/π˜₯) = 𝘒𝘀/𝘣π˜₯.)
Find the area of a rectangle with fractional side lengths by tiling it with unit squares of the appropriate unit fraction side lengths, and show that the area is the same as would be found by multiplying the side lengths. Multiply fractional side lengths to find areas of rectangles, and represent fraction products as rectangular areas.
