Description

This is the perfect bundle for teach students to plot and identify points in the first quadrant on a coordinate grid. This bundle consists of four interactive google slides. These slides can be used to cover the graphing on a coordinate plane and patterns on a coordinate plane standards in full (5.G.A.1, 5.G.A.2, 5.OA.B.3).

These lessons are color coded, clear, include several examples, and several opportunities to practice. Each activity in this bundle is ready to use! It can easily be assigned in your Google classroom by choosing the "make a copy for each student" function.

1. Graphing Points - Coordinate Plane: This lesson is an introduction to coordinate planes and the first quadrant. This lesson shows students how to plot and identify points on the first quadrant. Students get to practice by plotting and identifying points directly into the slides.

2. Graphing - First Quadrant: This is a super fun lesson that allows students to practice plotting and identifying points in the first quadrant. Students get to design their own neighborhood and plot each of the places wherever they choose on the coordinate plane, and then they label each of the locations.

3. Graphing Patterns on a Coordinate Grid: The slides focus on generating numerical patterns, creating ordered pairs from two patterns, and plotting the ordered pairs on the first quadrant of a coordinate plane. Students interact directly with the slides by completing the rest of the pattern given and plotting the points directly onto the coordinate plane.

4. Graphing Points - First Quadrant: This lesson focus on real world contexts and situations. All of the scenarios focus around goals and students are able to use the coordinate plane to show the progress of each goal.

My students had so much fun with these lessons and I hope your students do too!

A fun resource for review or additional practice for my students. They often did these with partners after a mini whole group lesson. Love this resource.

Very helpful for online learning, but will use it again in the classroom. The patterns page could have more, but was a good basic introduction.

Generate two numerical patterns using two given rules. Identify apparent relationships between corresponding terms. Form ordered pairs consisting of corresponding terms from the two patterns, and graph the ordered pairs on a coordinate plane. For example, given the rule “Add 3” and the starting number 0, and given the rule “Add 6” and the starting number 0, generate terms in the resulting sequences, and observe that the terms in one sequence are twice the corresponding terms in the other sequence. Explain informally why this is so.
Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the 0 on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g., 𝘹-axis and 𝘹-coordinate, 𝘺-axis and 𝘺-coordinate).
Represent real world and mathematical problems by graphing points in the first quadrant of the coordinate plane, and interpret coordinate values of points in the context of the situation.
