4th, 5th and 6th Math multi-step word problems for advanced/gifted learners

Created by
James Bisset
Welcome to this 4th, 5th and 6th-grade fun, multi-step, critical thinking, word problem math packet. I originally designed this for my 5th-grade classroom, but most of the pages can be used for gifted or high achieving students in both 4th and 6th grade. I wrote these word problems over a number of years, and a couple of them are actually ones that students wrote. There are 46-word problem pages and they are divided into the following sections: Multiplication (7 pages), Division(5 pages), Multip

This outline template can be used when planning a short story. It also includes a quick activity where you can teach the elements of a short story (conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution) prior to beginning the outline. The visual shows the students how a short story must include all of these elements in order to continually engage the reader. Teacher answer key included.

Working with students on the autism spectrum, social cognitive deficits or emotional behavioral deficits? Often the staff who serve them need to know if they are ready for their school day. Are they "carrying in" any anger or anxiety from home? Have they eaten? Have they had their medication? Do they have their supplies? This check in/check out sheet allows staff to check if a student is ready to carry on with their day. At the end of the day students reflect on their day. Often they d

Animal needs cloze for research of an animal

This is a one-page cloze designed to go with any unit on the needs of animals. It also works well as an alternate perspective approach to researching animals. Students choose an animal and complete a sentence for each of the basic needs of that animal, forming a complete page about the animal. I created this work to go with my own unit on the needs of animals. My second grade students were very successful with it. It was also at the right level for advanced first grade students. This workshee

Based on Carlie's notion that everything she is interested in is her business, this free graphic organizer challenges students to create a special page in an etiquette manual for overly-inquisitive young people and thereby discredit Carlie's flawed philosophy. Use this fun activity to encourage your students to take a look at the practical side of good manners.

Parent Info for Conferences

This is something I created to give parents clear, accurate information about the skills we are working on at school, and what things they can help their child work on at home. When I use this I simply highlight the skills the student needs to practice and add notes to reference during conferences. I teach at an ESL school with a high percentage of Spanish speaking families. This resource has an English copy, as well as one that has been translated to Spanish. It is also a Word document, so

Think1 and Think2 - a visible thinking assessment tool for any subject

Think 1, Think 2 is a simple idea but one of my favorite resources for Inquiry based learning. Whether you teach in an inquiry based learning environment or not, you can make use of this resource. When you start a topic, ask children to complete Think 1 – see what they know about the topic, with pictures, labeled drawings, words, wonderings or questions. Then, when you finish the topic, (maybe a few lessons, days, weeks or even a few months later) ask them to complete Think 2. You should be abl

Singing songs with kids in speech therapy can be highly beneficial for several reasons: Language Development: Songs are rich in vocabulary and language structure. Repetition of words and phrases in songs helps children learn new vocabulary and understand sentence structure in a fun and engaging way.Speech Rhythm and Fluency: Songs have a natural rhythm and melody, which can help children with speech disorders, such as stuttering, improve their fluency.
