World War Two Fractions Code Breaking Lesson
My class loved this Enigma machine themed code breaking investigation. It requires pupils to be able to simplify fractions, compare fractions changing the denominator and adding fractions with the same and different denominators. A fun way to assess learning and links well to your history lesson if you're doing WW2. I've listed this as a 1 hour lesson but you could split each word of the code into a different lesson working on a different fraction concept. Concepts covered are:

Harry Potter Solve the Equation Spell Code
This is a game where students solve 1 and 2-step equations to find the letters that spell out Harry Potter spells based on the first story. It is mostly 2-step equations although there are a few 1-step to help make the worksheet realistic for a single class period. There are a few with negatives as well to give students further practice with negative rules. The answer key is the final page. It is set up to print in landscape mode, so if it downloads in portrait I suggest changing it to landscape

Perfectly Simple Math Rubric
I firmly believe that there's more to grading than just correct or incorrect answers. What if a student shows all their work? Shouldn't they get credit? What is they participate throughout your lesson? Shouldn't they get credit with that too? After 30 years in this amazing career I firmly believe this is the correct way to assess students in a fair manner, while still showing how they're progressing in math.
