Note Naming Activity #1
Note Naming Activity #1 Let’s use the music note staff below to label each group of notes. Then, count the total number of notes (intervals) in each group (C=1, D=2, E=3, F=4, G=5, A=6, B=7) for each line of music and write the totals in the box on the bottom of the page. The numbers below each note are its interval - distance from other notes. This helps sight-reading and an easy marking system using addition to total each line of four bar notes, then total all four sums to get a grand total. I

This first activity involves GarageBand for iOS and putting a first song together. The song has 3 components, or tracks which can be expanded on, depending on your goals and proficiency of the participants. Tracks can be arranged in any order. After creating a New Song, students will be creating the following tracks: Rhythm track Chords track Melody track Students can use loops or perform their own rhythmic patterns, chords, and/or melodies on whatever Smart Instruments or drums they choose.

Loopy Melodies - Loop and Chord-Inspired Melody Writing
These are a collection of 6 basic chord progressions in G major, using chords I, IV, V, and I written for any similar treble clef instruments (e.g., recorders, xylophones, marimbas). GarageBand for iOS Composition Activities - Chord Based Melodies #1
GarageBand for iOS has Smart Instruments that allow for finger-gestured chords to be played, in chordal form (with inversions), or in arpeggiated style with the Autoplay feature turned on.
By introducing simple chord progressions (chord-ordered sequences), students can achieve impressive chordal accompaniments to compose melodies, and add drum patterns, if desired (separate tracks).
