This product is a worksheet where students cut out equations and number stories and match them. The focus is on the equation as a representation of the story. Students need to match the equation that represents the story, not try to find an equation that works out the answer. Focus is on the START, ACTION (joining equal groups - multiplication or separating a total into equal groups - division) and the END. The unknown therefore can be any of these three.

It provides a summary of strategies that can be used to develop understanding and associated number sense rather than just committing these facts to memory. This is a simple game that can be used to reinforce knowledge of Near Double addition basic facts. Students choose a card with a ten frame that shows a near double fact e.g. 4 dots on one side and 5 on the other (making 9 in total). Students match this image with the matching addition representation for the fact in the ten frame e.g. 4+5 on the game-board.There is no need to work out answers to the facts. This game just connects the near double image with the addition basic fact format. Students

This simple game reinforces seeing doubles being two collections of the same quantity. In this game students select a card that shows a ten frame where the dots are arranged in pairs (doubles). Students identify the total number of dots on their card and place their counter on a space with the matching number on the game-board. Students work in pairs to try to be the first to get three of their counters in a row on the game-board.

Students match 2 cards that show the same 1-digit addition represented using ten-frames. One set of cards has 9+ a 1-digit number and the other set of cards has 10 + 1-digit numbers. Students find the pairs of cards e.g. 9+6 will match the picture of 10+5. There are 2x10 cards in the game. Recommendation: Copy each set of cards onto a different colour paper before laminating to help students find the pairs more easily.

This resource includes 2 sets of cards. 1 set depicts addition equations that total 10 with the second addend missing. Students need to match the single-digit number card that completes the equation e.g. 3 + ? = 10 matches the 7 card. Play face up for learning and face down for consolidation. Suggest each set of cards is copied onto a different colour paper for ease of matching.

This is a simple game that can be used to reinforce knowledge of Near Ten addition basic facts e.g. 7+4 is near 6+4 (+1). Students choose two different game cards. One shows either 7+, 8+ or 9+. The other card shows either 4,5 or 6. These two cards create a random addition basic fact. This simple game reinforces the Count On 1 and Count On 2 addition basic fact strategy. Students compete to get three of their counters on the game-board in a row. Students choose two cards, one from each set (a digit card and either a +1 or +2 card), and work out the basic fact by counting on. They place their counter on the total.

This is a simple game that can be used to reinforce knowledge of Find Ten addition basic facts. A Find Ten basic fact is an addition strategy where a number close to 10 is swapped for a 10 to make the computation easier and then the answer is fixed. Students choose 2 cards, one from each set. This simple game reinforces doubles as a set of addition basic facts. This game contains 2 different sets of cards to reinforce the same concept. The first set of cards list the word double e.g. Double 4. The second set of cards shows the double as an addition e.g. 4+4. Students identify the total of the double from memory or by working it out and place their counter on a space with the total that matches the double fact on the game-board. The game practises the strategy where students break up 2-digit numbers into place value parts. Students choose 2 game cards to create an addition computation. They then match their computation with the ones on the game board where the 2 numbers have been broken into place value parts. The game is simple, effective and quick to play.

This game practises the strategy for addition where one of the numbers given is broken into place value parts e.g. 36 as 30+6.
