This PPT allows the teacher to teach places in the town in two stages, there is practice and recognition of masculine and feminine definite articles, asking "is there a ... near here?" plus some practice, directions simple and more complicated including a+el > > al use. This is a topic covering poetry from Uruguay. Students will analyse this quite simple poem in the context of the Hispanic literature and be able to discuss and recreate their own work through study of the poem. For UK teachers this is an ideal companion to the new framework using more literature in teaching across the key stages. Some activities can be used in Task Magic of which there is a home play free version online to use the activity but not modify it for use at home.

Students start at the X and follow the directions to a certain place and once they arrive at that place there is a number. The students write down the number of the place they arrive at. Also on this site is a free Hotpotatoes file where students can type in their answers, ideal for linking to a VLE where results can be seen straight away. (I admit the map is a little basic!)

I use this to get students used to translating and identifying tenses at a young age in year 7. Ideal to get students into the swing for the new GCSE syllabus. A short translation based on in my bag vocabulary. I admit it is contrived to be able to include tenses but the students seem to like the workout!

Students use the photos (the free file) to match up with the descriptions on this sheet. They decide who they are what their names are, there are various correct answers but the students need to recognise the correct family members to be able to match them. I print the photos onto A3 and then the other sheet, I either allow them to copy or cut and stick, depending on age range and ability.
