Mike's Stuff

A template model designed to help students deconstruct a math problem by using the 4 block model of Explore, Plan, Solve and Reflect. Can be used in any problem solving scenario and allows students to develop the necessary skills to solve problems more efficiently.

Students are presented with a series of scatter plots and asked to create a title and assess the type of correlation (strong, weak, positive, negative, no correlation). Students are also asked to write a brief main idea of what the graph is showing and support it with evidence.

Students research the language of geometry. All the important geometry vocabulary needed to understand and solve geometry angle problems. Line, Point, Ray, Line Segment, Perpendicular, Parallel, intersecting, Angle, Straight, Acute, Obtuse, Reflect, Right, Scalene, Isosceles, Equilateral, Complementary, Supplementary, Opposite, Transversal, Corresponding, Co-interior, Alternate.

Calculating Angle Problems Learning Goal – students will use their knowledge of angle properties and angle theorems to solve angle problems using proper mathematical notation. 1. Students use angle properties – supplementary angles, complementary angles, opposite angles, Interior Angles of a Triangle (ITT), Isosceles Triangles. 2. Students need to fill in all the missing angles. Each angle must be solved using proper justification. 3. Students can justify their answers right on the problem, o

Students need to find their own graphs using the Gapminder tool. Each graph needs to show a different type of correlation (weak, strong and zero positive and negative correlations.) Students have fun exploring different variables on the Gapminder tool and explore factors that affect the development of countries.

Students are encouraged to find the area to composite shapes in as many different ways as they can using creativity.
