Fraction Vocabulary Cards

These vocabulary cards are used in my fractions unit. The words include fraction, numerator, denominator, fraction bar, improper fraction, equivalent fraction, mixed number, simplest form, like fraction, unlike fraction, and unit fraction. Each card contains a definition and an example. I made these to save time because it is much easier to print them on card stock or have them paste them to an index card than to have them write out vocabulary as called for in my curriculum guide.

Multiplication Standard Algorithm Common Mistakes

After teaching the standard algorithm for so many years, I've found that my students can not identify the mistake in the math problem that they had made. I made this power point to have students evaluate a problem and find the error so they may be better equipped to identify their mistakes. When we complete this power point, we play it as a game. I group the students, show them a problem and the first group to find the problem hits the bell. They then have to go to the board and show the cla

Multiplying Using the Distributive Property

This Power Point walks through using the distributive property to solve 2 digit by 1 digit and 3 digit by 1 digit multiplication problems. With each mouse click, the next step in the process is revealed. There are 4 slides which demonstrate the process using arrays. The four examples with arrays are all 2 digits multiplied by 1 digit. There are four more 2 digit by 1 digit slides that illustrate the process without an array. There are three slides that illustrate 3 digit by 1 digit problems. Alo

Additive and Multiplicative Word Problems and Activity

This Power Point gives step by step instructions on identifying and solving additive and multiplicative comparison problems. The first two slides give two word problems. Students are to identify the key words and with a mouse click, the key words are highlighted. With each click of the mouse, the problem is worked out. Slides 4-9 give a single word problem in which students identify the key words and solve. In addition to the slide show, an activity is provided so that students may practice writ

Simplifying Fraction Sort

To get extra practice simplifying fractions, I created this sort activity so that students can cut and paste. I have them simplify all of the fractions first then give the sort sheet after they have completed the simpifying. This could also be used as a center.

Multiplying Two Digit by Two Digit Numbers Using the Distributive Property

This power point is a follow up to my "Multiplying Using the Distributive Property" powerpoint (students multiply 2 and 3 digit numbers by 1 number) which is also on TPT. In this power point, students will walk through the steps of using the distributive property to solve 2 digit by 2 digit problems. A click of the mouse reveals the next step in the process. A power point guide is provided and students are able to complete the problem on their guide as the power point is played. The first 4 slid
Preview of Division Game

Division Game

I designed this game so that my students wouldn't begrudge practicing long division. There are 2 game boards. One of the gameboards has 2 digit dividends with 3 digit dividend challenge problems. The other has 3 digit dividends with 4 digit dividend challenge problems. My students really enjoyed it and barely realized they were practicing long division.
Preview of Finding Factors Activity

Finding Factors Activity

This is an activity in which students find the factors of 1-24 using cookie cereal to make arrays to assist them. They complete a chart as they find each factor. After finding the factors or 1-24, there is a sheet in which they identify the prime and composite numbers. There are also practice finding factors worksheets included. I created this activity as an alternative to the Core Curriculum Unit 2 Activity 4. I've used it in my classroom and it worked very well.

Freaky Factors Game

In this game, students identify factors of whole numbers. As they move around the game board, they must land on factors of a given number to fill their freak card. There are two levels of play. For level one, students are given the factors and in level two, students find the factors of a given number before playing. The beauty of this game is that you can adjust and vary the way it is played to suit your time frame and student's ability level. Not only are students practicing finding factors, th

Comparing Fractions Power Point

This power point takes the kids through the process of comparing fractions over a two day period. Comparing first with like numerators, then like denominators then by cross multiplication. I've included a slide breakdown so that you can follow my train of thought. I've also included the greater than, less than and equal to signs that I print on cardstock and laminate and use throughout the year. CCS: MA.4.M.4.6

Divisibility Rules Unit

In this unit, students explore the concept of divisibility, establish divisibility rules, complete a worksheet, play a game, and take a quiz. The unit takes a week to complete. Activity 1: (2 days) Students explore divisibility using counters. Instead of counters, I use a food product, either cereal or cheez-its. Students work in pairs to divide the counters into the groups assigned in the chart and record the number of groups made. Activity 2: (1 day) Students are given hundreds charts and co

Pot of Beans, A Division Game That Focuses on Remainders

In this version of the remainder game, students divide beans from the pot into groups and keep the remaining beans. Better watch out, if you land on spill the beans, you loose all your beans and have to start all over. Mats and beans are provided for hands on division with manipulatives. This game is great for independent workstations. 2-4 players CCSS: 4.NBT.6 ; MA.3.M.3.6

Rounding Numbers Practice Game

To practice rounding numbers, I made this game. Students select a card, round the underlined digit on the card, partners check their answer, and if correct students move around the gameboard. After the whole class plays, I put it in one of my math centers.

Division unit vocabulary cards include the terms difference, division, divisor, dividend, quotient, and division notations. The cards also include how to tell if a number is divisible by 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, and 10 with examples. Printing the cards for the students saves time and prevents handwriting and copying issues. Look great in black and white too!

An Easter Fraction Book Activity

This is a great activity I use during my fractions unit because I am usually on my fraction unit around Easter time each year. The kids love it. I use it as a take home project. It could be completed as a class project but it does take considerable time to do the coloring, drawing, cutting and pasting. I've supplied a completed page for you. I only allow my students to use an adjective one time within the book and it makes the reading a lot more enjoyable. Although there is no thumbnail for

100th Day Math Riddle

Is it the 100th day of school? I found that most of the activities out there are for younger students. I created a couple of activities so that my older students could still participate in celebrating the 100th day of school. In this activity, students are given a riddle and equations sheet. They solve the equations and color in the corresponding number on the 100's chart. After solving all of the equations, the answer to the riddle appears on the chart. The students really liked it. Fractions and their Parts

This power point is used to introduce fractions. I've taken the lesson and broken it into 3 sections. The first section defines fractions, identifies the numerator and denominator, describes the function of the numerator, and the function of the denominator. In the second section, students identify the numerator or denominator of fractions and students create fraction stories that coincide with a picture on the slide. I've added this to the lesson this year since my district is focusing on s
