Help your students to write better leads and endings to their Personal Narratives with the help of this scaffolded resource!
I struggled to find a neat and tidy way to teach leads and endings, complete with a reference students could keep. Additionally, I have found that having students write their leads on a SEPARATE page before adding it to their draft makes it MUCH easier for me to monitor whether they are actually DOING IT or not, as well as the quality of their lead/ending. This way, I s

These can be challenging lessons, but they are SO worth it!
As a class, we brainstormed, with a lot of guidance, what makes a "great" setting, character, plot, theme, etc.
After recording some ideas on the criteria sheet, groups critiqued a book that had already been read in class, based on the criteria.
They loved being able to pretend to be a book critic and give components of stories "stars" just like movie critics really do!
There are great ways to help kids understand how to critique
