Squiggle writing is a huge hit in my class! The students love to turn that squiggle into something and create a story for it. First, they turn their squiggle into something by using the squiggle as the starting point to draw out a picture. Students apply their understandings of fractions to make art! Originally I did this project with my grade 5 students on graph paper, giving them more freedom to create images of different sizes and complexities. For my grade 3 class, the grid paper became a bit overwhelming and I came up with this template that could be used without as much fuss. They loved it! It can be edited to fit different learning needs and to require the demonstration of different understandings for many levels.
