This Geography and Media Learning Task is an excellent "non test" evaluation that progresses along a balanced literacy path. With this learning task, students are challenged to think critically about the impacts of bullying and how it impacts the victim and other people involved including: the bully, bystanders, teachers, siblings, parents and the like. Students extend their exploration of line and color in art by make inferences about physical and emotional impacts of bullying and how that might be represented visually. This package provides graphic organizers and success criteria for this learning journey.

This activity is based on my beginning of the year book: Doors in the Air. I do a read aloud with "Doors in the Air," and then discuss the story and hopes and goals for the year. This activity is designed so that students can express what they feel their "doors in the air" (opportunities) will be in the coming year.
