Description

If you teach third grade math, this is jam-packed with everything you need to teach division and cover the Common Core standards! This set was designed so you would have a complete unit. The presentation is so easy to follow that a substitute could even teach new content if you were unexpectedly absent!

This is included in my Common Core Math: 3rd Grade Complete Set GROWING Bundle!

Also, this is a great way to help enrich your high-flying 2nd graders, or help reinforce concepts for 4th graders. The presentation could be self-guided when needed!

There are 5 main topics for this Division unit! (See notes below)

*Representing Division (number line (backwards skip counting), repeated subtraction, array, grouping)

*Inverse of Multiplication (includes mult/division fact families)

*Rules of Division

*Solving for Unknowns (mult/division facts)

*Multi-Step Word Problems (+, -, x, ÷, estimation)

Extra Practice for Division Fluency, Fact Families, Solving Unknowns, and Multi-Step Word Problems

*I have included extra practice for each of these, for division fluency I have three.

* - Please note that the standards for mixed operations in word problems is used here because cumulatively they will have covered all four operations at this point.

Included:

♦ List of standards that are covered (in assessment file)

♦ Planning guide to help you easily write lessons, matches up the presentation slides, assessments, vocabulary used, interactive notebook entries, and games/activities for each mini unit to help you quickly make plans.

♦A full in-depth presentation on all main and review topics listed above, this includes class practice questions and answers at the end of each section. (There is also a brief review on the phrasing and vocabulary of addition and subtraction in word problems.)

♦3 Assessments PER main topic. Each topic has a regular practice assessment, an "Application" assessment (word problems, using tables), and a "Test Prep" with multiple choice (all w/ keys!)

♦Extra assessment for fact families, solving for unknowns, and multi-step word problems. Also 3 extra assessments for division fluency.

♦A complete unit study guide (w/ key) in the "style" of Common Core assessment

♦A complete unit test (w/key) in the "style" of Common Core assessment

♦Everything you need for a math interactive notebook including a notes/practice page and a foldable/activity for each topic. I have included a key and picture so you can see how I set up my notebook! There will be room for you to add any notes you want your students to include.

♦Vocabulary cards for your room covering: division, dividend, divisor, quotient, grouping (division), repeated subtraction, array (division), number line (division), inverse, unknown

♦Six total games and/or activities that could be used as class/group activities or centers that cover all six topics: Division Representation Concentration Game, Division "SHOCK" game, Color-by-Number (2) with division facts, Deep Sea Division Board Game, Clip It! Division Unit Review Task Cards

♦Paper 6-sided and 12-sided dice if needed, as well as 1-6 and 1-12 cards to use for games.

♦Very detailed notes for you from me on how to use the set! This includes a "Unit Guide" correlating all of the mini-unit/topics in a chart for ease of use and planning!

***Please note that while these are in color, they print beautifully in black and white! I know many of us do not have color printers at school, so I wanted to make sure these worked both ways!

***These files are all in PDF format, to show the presentation full screen, go to "view", then "Full Screen Mode" and it will view just like a PowerPoint Presentation!

Solve two-step word problems using the four operations. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.
Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
Understand division as an unknown-factor problem. For example, find 32 ÷ 8 by finding the number that makes 32 when multiplied by 8.
Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. Examples: If 6 × 4 = 24 is known, then 4 × 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 × 5 × 2 can be found by 3 × 5 = 15, then 15 × 2 = 30, or by 5 × 2 = 10, then 3 × 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 × 5 = 40 and 8 × 2 = 16, one can find 8 × 7 as 8 × (5 + 2) = (8 × 5) + (8 × 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property.)
Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation relating three whole numbers. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations 8 × ? = 48, 5 = __ ÷ 3, 6 × 6 = ?.
