Creating a Smiley Face (Genetic's Assessment with MYP Criterion C)

This is a summative assessment that focuses on student knowledge regarding dominant and recessive genes, along with Punnett Squares and patterns of inheritance. This activity is very hands-on as students flip coins in order to determine the genes of the dad and mom smiley faces. They then use Punnett Squares to figure out the probability of the baby smiley face inheriting certain genes and then design the faces on paper. This file includes --Student directions --Recording document template

Daily Weather Log Graph Analysis Project (MYP Criterion E included)

This is a great summative assessment project at the end of a unit on weather. Students take on the role of a meteorologist and record several atmospheric conditions everyday for a month using either weatherchannel.com or weatherbug.com. At the end of the month students then organize all of their data into tables and several different graphs to see any patterns or relationships between the different atmospheric conditions. They then write a summary about their findings over time. This is a great

Scientific Method Lab Report Write-up Using Bouncy Balls (with MYP Criterion D)

This is a very fun, hands-on lab to help students go through the process of the scientific method and learn how to accurately write-up a lab report. This could be used as a summative assessment to a scientific method unit, a culminating activity at the end of the year, or as an introductory assessment or review at the beginning of the year depending on the grade level. The focus of the activity is for students to take three bouncy balls and conduct an experiment to see which ball will bounce

Measurement Metric Length Lab with optional Next Chapter MYP Criterion C

This lab focuses on using metric rulers, meter sticks, and measuring tapes as students find the lengths of various body parts. This lab should be done in the beginning of the school year and then again at the end of the school year so students are able to see and assess how much they have grown over time. This lab is fun and engaging as it focuses on each individual student! In order to assess this lab I have included the Next Chapter MYP Criterion C Level 3 Science rubric, however I have c

Metric Measurement Assessment with optional Next Chapter MYP Criterion A

This assessment can be used as a summative, culminating assessment after a unit on metric measurement. This assessment was written using the MYP Level 3 Science Criterion Assessment rubric. However, the assessment can easily be graded with points as well. On the MYP Next Chapter Criterion A rubric students can see a vocabulary box that explains the key terms in the descriptors and as students move through the assessment each question progressively gets harder and forces students to use more s

Measurement Liquid Volume Lab with optional MYP Next Chapter Criterion C

This is lab is a favorite in my classroom. This lab is designed for students to focus on measuring liquid volume using the metric system, following directions, and the importance of accuracy. In order to assess this lab I have included the Next Chapter MYP Criterion C Level 3 Science rubric, however I have created task-specific descriptors next to the actual rubric descriptors that focus on the lab in order to make grading and assessing easier for the teacher. These task-specific descriptors
