I am currently in my 33rd year of teaching. Most of my experience has been at the elementary level teaching self-contained classrooms, ELA/R, American History, and small group literacy intervention lessons.
I have been an instructional coach in my school district for ten years working with teachers in grades K-12 and in all content areas. Most of my work is with elementary and middle school teachers.
I am currently a literacy interventionist.

Author's Perspective - Author's Purpose, Theme, & Central Idea
This task allows students to read a piece of text and focus on clues that support the author's perspective about throughout the text. Students collect these clues and thoughts in the organizer on the left.
They will also reflect on what they believe is the author's purpose and respond with text evidence to support their thinking. They will determine the central idea that is prevalent throughout the text. They will even think about the theme of the text.

This chart on pronouns serves as a reference tool for your students. Reading Fluency Rate Bar Graph
This document supports students' ability to increase their fluency rate over a course of five weeks. Formative Assessment - Peer Editing - Two Stars & a Wish
Peer Editing - this strategy is used when students are sharing a sample of their writing with a few partners. This tool will help your students be more engaged in the composition sharing because they are responsible for writing down two ideas that they liked in their partner's writing and then one wish or suggestion on how to improve the writing. 25 Book Reading Challenge
Teachers in my school district will be embracing the idea of allowing the students in their classroom (grades 3-12) to practice their reading through free choice independent reading during this upcoming year. We have recently been inspired by Donalyn Miller’s book titled The Book Whisperer. Donalyn Miller promotes this idea and she does a 40 book challenge in her classroom. Monitoring Reading Fluency Rate Over Time
This is a great way to track fluency for the more advanced readers in your classroom. Students will be motivated to color in their bar graphs after each fluency check. While You Were Absent - Make-up Work Slip
I copied this sheet on colored paper and then cut the stack down the middle lengthwise and kept them handy for each day. I made a small stack at the beginning of the year so they were always ready to go.

Time for Kids - Summarizing
My students really enjoy reading through Time for Kids each week. I found many opportunities to incorporate some reading and writing using this magazine in my classroom.
