KFUNdamentals: Where we "keep the FUN in the FUNdamentals!" I was always looking for fun ways to teach the standards and keep my students engaged. I started creating my own materials designed to teach fundamental skills through fun and total group engagement and wanted to share these FUN ideas with other teachers. I started presenting at various Kindergarten conferences in California with my brilliant colleague, Sarah, who is now busy raising her children. I continue to present and share my ideas and products on my blog, http://kfundamentals.blogspot.com, and on TPT. Hope these ideas help you to "keep the FUN in the FUNdamentals!". Happy teaching! Use the 48 graphics of nouns, 48 graphics of verbs, and 48 graphics of places (to be used as prepositional phrases) to create silly sentences. Copy the nouns on pink paper, the verbs on green, and the prepositions on blue. Each graphic is labeled so students can choose 1 pink, 1 green, and 1 blue graphic to build their silly sentence. Students dictate, you write, and they copy onto the dotted lines about the American symbol they like best and why. They color in the blank lines with red and the page looks like an American flag! These whimsical poems are written in a dotted font so your students can trace (with a fine tip marking pen) only the letter you are working on. Since the poems contain alliteration, one letter is repeated several times in each poem. We color the bubble letter at the top of the chant, trace the chosen letters throughout the chant, and glue the chant to the front flap of a piece of 12"X18" construction paper which has been folded to measure 12"X12". The 6" front flap is perfect for the poem a

This 7 page book is great to do (1 or 2 pages each day) at the beginning of TK and then, send it home with the parents at your "Meet The Teacher" night! :) Cover: Students draw a self portrait and color it to match the clothes they are wearing. (This page is fun to do on the first day of school.) Page 1: Color the crayons with their 3 most favorite colors. Since this page is simple, it’s a good day to do two pages. Page 2: Using watercolor paints, have the students paint a simple picture,

Here is our version of a cute song you can use for your kindergarten graduation. You can download an instrumental version of "It's A Small World After all" from iTunes for $1.99 or less and match the song to this book. If the song has an extra chorus, just print an extra chorus page. If the song is too long, just fade it out at the end. Try to find one that isn't too fast. I have a fast version and the kids love it, but it's tricky to keep up with turning the pages! :oD The title and song

Just print on card stock and laminate so students can erase with a damp paper towel. I make a set of 6 cards so a small group can practice while I watch and guide them. Go green this year and make these re-usable printing cards. You'll love the straight four and nine, not this 4 and 9! :)
