These two lessons with fractions of time/clocks have been taught multiple times to 5th grade yielding positive results from both students and teachers. Students show quick understanding from the hands on activity. Included are two lessons: In the first lesson, students divide and cut apart colored clocks of halves, thirds, and fourths to find fractional parts of an hour. This lesson also has students find fifths, sixths, and tenths of an hour. The second part of this lesson is extended to fi

With the common core standards there exists a need to have a hundreds chart with numbers that go past 100 so that students gain fluency with counting up to 1000 and beyond. Because of this need, these cards were created to extend the use of the hundreds pocket chart. When students have learned to count 1-100, higher numbers may be placed on the hundreds chart to recognize patterns and generate discussion. For example, you may decide to place numbers 51-150 on the chart so students can practic

The 100's chart pages are made to guide students into discovering patterns when adding/subtracting 10 and multiples of 10 after whole group discussions about these patterns around the classroom hundreds chart. The mental math pages are designed to promote fluency after students have had experience finding patterns. This product has been used successf

This variety of number charts has been created for the purpose of helping students become strong with their sense of number. Students struggle with many mathematical concepts because they cannot simply count forwards and/or backwards beginning from any number. After second grade there is little attention given to counting past 1,000. Just because students can count to 1,000 doesn’t mean that they understand the patterns that occur in all numbers. These charts are a guide to help students und

This variety of number charts has been created for the purpose of helping students become strong with their sense of number. Students struggle with many mathematical concepts because they cannot simply count forwards and/or backwards beginning from any number. Most of these charts begin ten numbers before a multiple of 100 and end ten numbers after multiples after 100. This is in order that students are able to practice identifying what numbers come before and after multiples of 100, as this

Bubble Gum Pop Math Center Games are games that students can play to add or subtract 1's, 10's, or 20's on a hundreds chart. The bubble gum spinner tells students how to move their game pawns on the hundreds chart board. There is also a wild space for added fun. The math station games provide much differentiation as there are spinners that allow for the focus to be on +1,-1, +10, -10 OR +1, -1, +10, -10, +20, -20. Also the games boards are differentiated so that some students may be working

Because of students’ struggles to build decimal number lines, order decimals, and round decimals, I made these number charts. Students learn to count to 100 in kindergarten with number charts because they make patterns evident…why not count with number charts to see patterns in decimals? If students see the patterns within decimal number charts, they are better able to draw conclusions through their own reasoning about ordering and rounding decimals. Included in this packet are the followin
